rock rubble in the drain area of sump?

So I have a decent amount of room in my drain area for my sump and was wondering if anyone puts rubble into that area to..

A) cut down on micro bubbles coming from the drains
B) add more room for pods and aerobic bacteria to populate...

I have some room as well in my return area and have seen some people put some rubble in there as well.

Thoughts?

I used to have a bubble trap filled with rubble. It's no different than using sponges in a wet/dry setup. It builds up with all the crap your overflow picked up and you have to get in there every so often to clean it up. I switched to filter socks and couldn't be happier.

a filter sock will take care of A. As for pods, they'll grow anywhere. I have an empty chamber in my sump and it's filled with pods. No sand, no macro algae, no rocks.

Makes sense and that is actually why I didn't put rubble in my bubble traps (I have two) I originally wanted to but they are just sitting there empty because of the build-up issue and how hard it would be to get to them... Just figured I would use some of that extra space that is just sitting there and put some rubble in there....

Anyone else? Thoughts?
