Want to cover my overflow box and was wondering if the regular Great Stuff will work?
Also what should i do to cover it? Epoxy/sand? or krylon fusion paint?

Please post some pics with what yours was made with.
Thanks
derek

Use black pond foam only....minimal expanding. There really is no need to coat it with anything...it will be purple in 4 months regardless.

D-Man,
This is a pic of mine right after setting up. I used regular great stuff...I know, I know. Go find a 10 year old koi pond. The waterfall is probably held together with original great stuff, and doing fine. I coated mine with resin/aragonite so that it wouldn't look like an eye sore, but it won't matter after several months as previously posted. IF you decide to coat it, I'd recommend roughing up the surface with a wire brush, dremmel tool, etc. so that it doesn't flake off later.

you should be able to go into any hobby shop and find some epoxy. Some have used a product called Z Epoxy? I simply used all purpose fiberglass resin and hardener from Bondo available at any home improvement store. The biggest issue with epoxy is not using enough hardener. I use more than the recommended dosage to ensure proper hardening...you don't want any gooey spots. You'll go through several brushes applying the resin/hardener mixture, as the brush will get stiff pretty quick. Do small sections at a time and quickly cover with your sand. It may require a second coat to fully cover the foam, but wait till the first is dry.

D-Man,

there are some pretty informative threads on RC detailing the process. If your tank is empty, and the overflows aren't glass, you may get away with putting the foam directly on it. The other option is to make something less permanent using eggcrate and zip ties (what I did). I haven't updated my build thread in a while, but everything is doing great. Feel free to look...it may give you some ideas.

Do you have a reef ready tank? The reason I ask is because if it's just a hang on overflow box it won't work because it will float.
