Hi all, thanks for stopping by and checking out my build. Ok now i know i am starting this a little early, but I am exccited and had to write something. So let me tell you what i am thinking. My wife just bought me a Oceanic 29g Biocube, and i am definetly thinking reef tank, with a few fish. This will be my first reef tank, i had a marine tank a while back, and I am a full time nursing student and about to be a new father in the next few days so im going to be taking my time.

:bounce3:

So since i hated all the stands that were being sold i will also be making my own stand and i will also be making a quarentene tank out of a Fluval EDGE 6.6g tank that i have around the house. So essentially you will be getting 3 builds out of one thread. Now aren't you all feeling lucky now.

:bounce1:

So my new tank and live sand arrive tomorrow. And who knows maybe my son too. Lol lots of things in the air, but ill be starting my stand hopefully this weekend, and ill be starting the cycling of my quarentene tank this weekend. But i will also be moving to my new house within the next 20 days so im not going to start the cycle of the Biocube til we move into the new house.

So stop by whenever you get the chance and ill show you whats going on.

WOOT!!!! The tank and sand finally arrived today. Put it all together and everything works. So now before i can start the cycle i am going to have to make a make shift tank stand that will have to do till i can make my fancy one. So tomorrow i will make the make shift tank stand and ill put up some pics so you all can see. And then Monday or Tuesday i will put in the water and sand and start to cycle the tank. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if there is any good reason why i cant cycle the tank without live rock in it right now. I will be buying the live rock in a week and putting it in then. Anyone know if that is ok or not?

Well thanks for checking this out. Talk to you then.

Bill

The only bad part is it will test your patience a bit. Doing the rock later will restart the cycling process or at least add more time to it, but hopefully not too much time. This will be determined by the condition of the rock. Btw congrats on the tank arriving.

@ Grant W - ya i know it will test my patience but i am going at this nice and slow...(sigh). But it will be worth it in the long run, i have read about way to many people on here rushing in and buying 5 fish and then a CUC only after their tanks had been cycled for 3 weeks and then everything died, and then they wonder..."why is everything dead, and **** i just spent like 100 bucks and i have nothing to show of it." wow not going to happen to me. Slow and steady is the way to a gorgeous tank. And that is what im doing. but on to other things.

I finished my make shift stand for the tank today. Just 2x4 construction and some OSB plywood on top. Nothing special and definetly not pretty to look at. But functional til i can make my fancy one. Ill take a pic of the tank and stand tonigth and post them later.

Tomorrow ill buy me some water and get this cycle going. Like i said in an earlier post i will just be putting in the live sand and the salt water tomorrow, live rock maybe next week. Pics of course to follow.

thanks for stopping in and checking this out, to be continued....

Hey Bill,

A RO/DI water filter is a great investment.

What kind of salt are you thinking about using.

Mike

actually im buying the startup saltwater from my local fish store here for a buck a gallon. and i have high expectations for buying a RO/DI water filter but i have very high sulfur content in our well water, so im hesitant. got to research a bit about them then i can make a decision.

sorry i havent gotten pics up or written anything but my son was just born on friday the 13, at 1219. 7 lbs 6 oz, 19 inches long. Beautiful boy he is.

OK guys I know it will be a while bit not 6 months....to be honest the whole idea behind the tank is to be Luke's night light so it needs to get done. ANyways i was thinking of going to that reef store in cotati and buying some live rock to help cycle my tank, have you guys been there, i was told they were selling the rock for something like 5 dollars a lb and 4 dollars for anything over 10 lbs. i thought it was a good price so ill be going there right after i poick up Luke and head back home with his mommy. Lol

Ill try and actually get some pics up when i have the landscpe together...promise oh and another pic of Luke lol.

Nevermind, i just called over there and the number was disconnected and the website was down, so im guessing they closed down. im betting that is why their prices were so low lol.

I was just there a last week and some guy there said he was the new manager. Sooo maybe someone else tried to buy the store. Again.

I have been in there twice in the last couple weeks, and talked to the guy who is in charge now. The same guys owns the place (guy from Texas), but the old crew (headed by Cody) is no longer in place. I don't have what I would consider to be an full or accurate set of details, so I won't relay them, but suffice to say that they are still open and planning to stay that way. Hopefully they will get something in that I actually want to buy soon :p

I've been to Northbay or whatever you want to call it now (cotati) few times recently and like Ben said still open no more Cody. As for live rock I didn't really see anything but some dry rock they just started curing and most of it too large for a nano. They did start ordering some new stuff though so they seem to be trying to fill back up.
