I want to rearrange my rockwork. Well, maybe rearrange, probably more like take some out. Not one piece has been touched in well over 6 years. There's a ton of sponges on/between/connecting the rocks. I've read that sponges can release nasties if messed with. Not sure if it is true or not, and whether it means disturbed (ripped/smashed) or killed (smothered).
Any truth to this? If so, what'd be the best way to go about it? Move only a piece or two every day or two?
Would running carbon help?
(I'm not planning on moving the base rock or disturbing the sandbed.)
