RODI auto shut off help

Hello,

I fill a 30 gallon rubbermaid trash can with RODI water to do monthly water changes. I hate waiting for it to fill up because i always worry it will overflow unless i keep a close eye on it.

Is it possible to set up my RODI filter to shut off when the rubbermaid is full? It seems like it's probably not too hard to set up, so i'd love to hear what people do out there. Also, any links to instructions would be outstanding.

Oh, for what it's worth, my filter is a Specta Pure Max Cap RODI 90 gpd.

Why not put a float valve in the rubbermaid?

Lots of people do it. Besides after filling a whole rubbermaid can, I doubt the flow will be strong anyhow.

the shut-off valve is apparently strong enough to stop the pressure, and the solenoid is also used to stop the wastewater production (or else wastewater would just keep coming out).

ASOVs work fine.

This is half price of what nmbeg linked and does the same thing. It shuts water off completly.

Without a ASOV the waste water will flow the same as if the unit was operating.

I have a garden hose timer after the shut off valve on the input side of the RO/DI .

My auto shut off has a solenoid on the input that kills water to the unit when the sensor tell it to. If you don't kill the input then the waste drain continues to dump water. I have the spectrapure unit but there are many others out there.

I have the Air Water Ice contraption and I installed an overflow in the side of the Rubber Maid container. works great. R

I'm actually setting up a system like this now with a float valve. I was thinking of adding a bulkhead a little above the float switch with tubing into a drain. This would be the safety in case the float switch fails.

Has anyone had a float switch fail? In storage container where there are no snails or other living things, I think the chances of it failing are much lower?

That's a good idea! Especially given the low chance that it would actually fail, but always nice to have a contingency plan.

You asked for a link to the one I'm using and it looks just like the one you referenced above. The only difference is that I don't see a solenoid in the kit you're looking at. I looked through their site and the only other kit I saw was this one. Also, I picked up the long cable so that I could run from the transformer at the tank to my RODI in the garage.
