RODI auto shut off setup

My RODI system didn't have an auto shut off valve on it, so I added one last week. It's the basic one from BRS. Nothing fancy.

Maybe it's a faulty unit maybe it's just met not setting it up right, but it doesn't shut off the water. My float valve shuts off the filtered water, but water is still coming out of the waste line.

Something obviously isn't right. Any thoughts?

Does your RODI unit have an auto shut off valve built in to the unit? When the float stops the water flow the back up pressure closes the ATO valve on the RODI unit.

That's what I added. My expectation was that when the float shut off the water flow, that pressure would shut off the whole thing.

Instead, water keeps running through the waste line.

What would work is if you had a solenoid on the water input line tied to a float switch. When the float switch is activated it will trigger the solenoid closing it. All you're doing right now is blocked the clean water output. The input is still pressurized and putting water into the RO unit which means it all becomes waste water.

That's what I figured was happening. But the directions for this thing say to put it inline between the last carbon block and the RO membrane and then the other side is in the clean water output between the RO and the DI canister.

What you're saying should happen is what I expected to happen. My float switch should trigger this thing to shut off the water supply completely. But that can't really happen because it just pushes all the water through the waste line instead.

What am I missing?

These only work one way. Are you sure it's not flipped and you have the feed line trying to shut off the output line?

I just double checked to make sure it wasn't installer error. It's OK.

To function properly the unit also requires a check valve on the filtered water end of the RO membrane. Many RO systems come with the check valve built in, check to see if yours has one. It will be inside the 90 degree hose fitting (pictured above) or may be an inline check valve (pictured right).This is from BRS install page. If you call them they will walk you through to find the problem.

So i have the same problem and just gave up, i DID buy a ebay cheap check valve and just assumed it was that. Never really messed with it since...
but now im motivated. im going home to double check EVERY connection to the RODI unit.

Mine has a bypass valve for flushing the ro membrane. Is yours in the correct position?
