rodi float switch to nano

Has anyone put a float switch running directly off of there rodi unit ino the back of there nano tank. I was thinking of drilling a hold in my bio cube at the max fill line and putting the float in there so that the rodi water would go directly into the tank to keep the water level stable.

Am I missing something or would this work?

It would work, but it's rife with potential catastrophic failures, especially on a small setup like that. Not worth it, in my opinion.

TDS creep from only running a few ounces at a time from your RO/DI unit... they work better when allowed ample time to run each time

Well that's the end result that's such a big deal. On 14 gallons, the tank couldnt tolerate that failure for more than a very small amount of time. How that thing can fail? Stuck open, leak, what else? I'd be more inclined to do this on a larger tank with room in the sump to help avoid floods, but on a 14 gallon it's just too risky.

A couple options, one is a(n electronic) float switch hooked up to a pump and a reservoir, or you could use that same mechanical float switch and a gravity fed reservoir. Honestly, I have my RO/DI hooked up to the tank, but it's a 200 gallon system with about 40 gallons of space in the sump and flow limited to about 7 gallons a day that will protect me against a flood. In your case, I don't think you have the margin to take the risk (both of flood and diluting the tank so quickly).

I agree with you on both points of diluting and flooding of the tank. I think what I will do is like you said and get an electronic float switch and hook up a pump in a 5g bucket below the tank. This way if the switch were to fail it would only put 5g's of water max into the tank.

do you think that this is worth buying?
