Rodi or not

How many of you do not use rodi water in their fowlr system.Getting ready to set up my 220 again after 3 years out of the hobby.

I use ro/di water for my pred tank, just feel better going that way than anything else. I'd suggest investing in a ro/di filter setup instead of getting the water from LFS, would save you a lot and the initial fill would just about pay for the filter itself.

Always used tap water in my FOWLR. Never had any issues with algae, always 0ammonia 0 nitrite and 0 nitrate with water changes once a month.

I used tap water on my 33 for like 7 months......just moved everything into a 75 using tap water too.....I'm looking at getting and ro/di with my tax returns. Also note these were reef setups.

I use RO/DI on my reef tank so it would be silly to not use it for my FOWLR. But even if I did not have the reef tank, I would still use RO/DI. It just eliminates additional stuff from the water that I don't need.

Like what? Have you tested your tap water? I find it really interesting that SO many people blindly follow the RODI trend without any necessity or evidence of necessity. I can tell you short of chlorine/chloramine which cost me about $.10 per water change to eliminate my water was 0/0/0, no copper, and such little phosphate that my fuge with chaeto easily took care of it. I even had a bunch of sponge/coralline growing.

Don't get me wrong, I use RODI in my Reef, but unless you are using untreated well water I think RODI is completely unnecessary in a FOWLR tank.

I know what my Tds comes out of the tap at. I know what comes out of RODI unit. You want to use tap water go ahead. I chose to use RODI. You can argue all you want. But there is no reasonable argument over my opinion. Note I was not saying that you were wring either. Also not saying you are right. I do not blindly follow and it is certainly not a trend. I am also not sure why you are so vehementy opposed o RODI in a FOLWR.

I just want to see some concrete evidence that what is coming out of your tap is harmful to fish. I understand that certain things in the tap water are harmful to inverts, but fish are a different story.

I use RODI and will never use tap in my fish tank. Our water does have a little of arsenic, copper, lead, choloroform...stuff like that. I even use my bypass on my RO unit to get drinking water and I use it to make my mocha's as well :) I feel better that I'm not putting these other contaminants in my system. I have a 5 stage system.

Have you looked up your water report for the city you live in? That could help you decide what you want to do.

Depending on where you live the water quality can suck. Chicago is probably ok because of Lake Michigan, but in Florida the tap water has tons of phosphates, etc. and if you use tap water your tank is going to have a ton of hair algae in it. This may not be bad for this fish, but it sucks trying to maintain the tank.
