Everyone has their own opinion and preference when it comes to ro units.Personally I dont think some of these units are well suited for us NY folks.Compared to many in the country we've got decent water if you consider sediment. For me,1 -.5 micron- sediment and carbon block seems to work best.If you notice a lot of these units come with 10-5 micron, just something to consider.
Also, you might want to consider one of spectrapure 's ro membrane. The type that are tested and have a gauranteed 98% + rejection. Though I do think flimtec makes a good membrane I did some math after owning a filmtec membrane whitch the rejection was slightly lower at 96%.
Heres some numbers for you to consider.
Initial tap water 240 tds, post filmtec membrane with rejection of 96% = tds 9.6
Initial tap water 240 tds,post spectrapure membrane,rejection of 98% = tds 4.8
Those numbers were the highest tds readings I have seen in the summer months and I'm just using for example.I have seen the number drop to low 140's.
Using that number here
140tds @ 96% rejection rate = 5.6tds (filmtec)
140tds @ 98% rejection rate = 2.8tds (spectrapure)
Sorry for the longwinded post here but if you look at the final removal numbers this is what is left for Di resin and it starts to become clear your using twice the amount of Di resin or it exhausts twice as fast. However you want to look at it.
Ive been using a spectrapure membrane going on my 3rd year now and actually figured the rejection rate @98.7 whitch is actually higher that the examples above.
Though some folks do seem to be getter better % rejection rates with the fimtec just know they're not tested so its hit and miss.
Just my experience ,good luck to ya' whatever you decide.
