RODI Water Storage

I bought a Brute 50g garbage can to store my RODI water in and was wondering how long it will stay deionized in the container? I heard that it will "reionize". The garbage can has a top but its not like air tight or anything. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

The water might reionize, but the common guess is that the ions won't hurt anything. Brute containers are food-grade plastic, and people seem to have good luck with them.

Yeah, the Brute containers are a little bit higher priced and people dont usually have problems with the regular containers but no reason to chance it.

i have 35g brute myself. never had a problem with it "re-ionizing" the water. thats the first i have heard of that. there are some other brands of plastic containers that will leach chemicals into the water, those are considered not food grade.

I asked the question on the chemistry forum as to what kind of plastic is safe. According to Randy any Polypropylene plastic is ok. He suggested doing a smell test. If the plastic smells very bad/strong then don't use it. Look at the bottom of the container for PE or PPE or PP...

I wasnt referring to the container as the reason for the water to reionize. From what I've read, the environment will cause the water to. Examples I remember hearing were if it was in the basement around a gas furnace or the ammonia from a cat litter box.

Hmm really. Keep mine in laundry room. I make sure to keep mine covered so the cat doesn't go swimming and so the dog doesn't think it is nice new fresh water. :)

Keep it tightly sealed or covered so you don't reintroduce contaminants from the air or even dust and dirt. DI water is very agressive and is always trying to get back to its natural state ie with minerals and such.
