Rodi?

I'm getting pretty sick of hauling buckets to and from my local fish store to do water changes, but I'm not really sure what type of purifier to purchase. Does anyone have any suggestions? The fish store said that they use the Kold Ster-Il unit for all of their tanks except for the sps tank. They said that they use an rodi unit for the sps. I'm confused and not sure what direction to go. I have a 75 gal mixed reef with 500watts of metal halide.

You want to use an RO/DI. Other wise you don't know what you're putting in your tank. Click on the Sponsors tab at the top of the page, and check The Filter Guys and Bulk Reef Supply. You should find something to meet your needs there.

I'd get a 5 Stage Reverse Osmosis Unit with Deionizing Resin Post Filters (RODI) capable of about 75 Gal per day. A 5 stage unit consists of: 1) a gross filter cartridge; 2) a carbon block cartridge; 3) a Reverse Osmosis Cartridge; and 4/5) two Deionizing Resin Cartridges. Check Bulk Reef Supply or Air Water and Ice. Don't go cheap and try to get away with a 4 stage. The extra DI resin cartridge ensures that the TDS remains at 0 when the first cartridge is expended. Make sure to get a dual TDS meter to monitor the output of the DI cartridges.
