do some of these fish not go full onyx...or just show colors of a regular perc? Can the gene be skipped in some fish and just hold normal percula characteristics?

I'm just asking this question b/c they have been growing up in a green bubble tip and are showing very little darkening, so I'm going to get a carpet to see if they darken.

There have been a few reports of them losing the black when hosting BTAs. It seems to happen to wild caught ones too. "adtravels" has a thread about his wild caught ones and being hosted by a Gig.

I know that my wild caught ones lost a lot of their black when they started being hosting by my LTA. I am fairly certain it is because of the anemone. The female was first to be hosted, and she lost the black first. About a week later the male was hosted --- who had kept his black -- and he started to lose it. One of these weekends I am going to remove the LTA, and move one of my Haddonis into that tank and see what happens.

i have some WC onyxes being hosted by my rBTAs. I've had them for almost 3 years now and for the first couple of years, everything was ok, but starting from the last 3 months, their black has been fading a LOT ... in fact, the male looks almost like an ocellaris now :(

either way, I have two very healthy and playful percs that I'm not getting rid of. I just hope they grow some pants.

weird thing that has been happening the dorsal has lightened up but they have been gaining darker color everywhere else

I will get some pictures tonight of mine (( SI Perc )) and show how much black they have lost since being hosted by my LTA.
