Thanks for sharing this. I got a pair of clowns from christosclowns last year on May 20th. They were not even an inch in size, about only 45 days old and shipped up to NY and then brought into Canada with a bunch of other ones. That alone would stress the fish.
Like you, I used a little betta tank in my main one for the first six months or so while they sized up and ate. I have two other clowns in my tank to and I have been keeping notes on their development.
With two other larger clowns in the tank there is some aggression, but not much so I know that will knock them down a bit in development. However, what I have noticed with most people is the colors don''t seem to come in until the mid bar on the clowns are fully developed.
I am also interested to know, at what age is it that Rod and other breeders normally sell their young onyx? Any one have any ideas?
I ask, as my juvi's have the undertones to the onyx coloration. That grey orange hue to their skin. So I know it is there. I also just added a very small, and unfortunately bleached sebae anemone to the tank and placed it around where the young ones frequent. The smaller of the two often sleeps in it at night and I am going to watch to see if color development increases now that they have something to feel a little more protected in.
I thank you for sharing your experience as it has helped in my planning and timeline for my clowns development.
Please share more pics as yours continue to color up.
