I am starting to notice that the 3rd bar on most of rods clowns are never fully come in. The ones on this page are just a few examples. Mine has developed black around the 3rd bar so i doubt that it will get anymore white, and my other has no stripe yet...

The middle bar IMO is a given..the cool thing is to find clowns that have it morphed..like Embryo's avatar.

i could care less if the 3rd comes in all the way or on both sides or not.. but i really do want that deep black his clowns are famous for... if i dont get a connection between 2 and 3 ill be slightly upset... but not upset enough to ditch him ( i get attached)... ill just start a second tank for another pair...

Another are a couple of more pictures taken this morning (May 1st)...And i wanted to know what ya'll think about the top fin being half white and half black in some clowns..does that make the clown more "Onyx" than the rest? (just a thought).

Well... This thread pushed me over the edge! PEER PRESSURE! I just got off the phone with Rod and my new Onyx clowns will be here by Wednesday. I told my wife that it was some guy's fault on Reefcentral by the handle, "embryoguy." Because when I told her what I paid she just about killed me! But in my opinion, they are going to be healthy fish and are what I have wanted for some time which makes them worth the cost. Thanks,

craig , first you have to learn to not tell her the full truth about price of livestock 
and if you do, you reason with her and say. if you spread cost over many years, its actually only a few dollars a month or simply, its the cost of a single dinner out, versus many days of stress-relief enjoyment

Thanks fellas! I'll make sure to post some pics of the new additions. Also Fiber, I went ahead and paid the full price for what Rod called the ones he was almost certain would be a true onyx. I gues his prices are based on their coloration at the time of the sale. I also gave you guys some props with Rod, who is a great guy!. I directed him to this thread and told him there was a poster on here talking about his table at the IMAC. He told me he would check it out. Anyway, thanks again,

my clowns gets:
a. every three days: mix of frozen mysis, cyclopeeze, blood worms with addition of a few drops garlic & selcon for absorption for 10mins in frig. just like when you marinate steak
b. inbtn, they get formula 1 & 2 pellets and freeze dried cyclo.
fyi, i use this routine so that my clowns get use to many varities of food, during times when i m away and need to use an automatic feeder. aslo this method helps keep my water quality high.
but, a strong diet of cyclopeeze should boost there color

Yes, I do have a special recipe for my Onyx clowns, but I'll not tell you when embryoguy is lurking around!!!
Actually, I feed all of my tank inhabitants Rod's food! If you ask him really nice and pay extra for some dry ice, maybe he'll ship it to you! It's $30 per brick and about the best food you could ask for. Rod mixes it up special and many of us local reefers keep him busy making new batches......

BTW, Rod's food has all of the ingredients mentioned above, but a few special additions! If I ever tried to mix it myself, my wife would kick me out for sure!
