Rod's Onyx

i wish mine would stop hosting my preskimmer box... it's ok that they host it, only they host behind it, between the tank back and the pre-skim box so I can only see them if I go to the side of the tank! I have to feed them back there too since they hardly come out.

Here are some updated pics on the clowns. You can really see the colors starting to come in now.

does your elderly couple lay eggs yet? And if they do, are you going to try and raise the fry?

No eggs i think they are still too small.

and yes i would love to try my hand at raising some babies someday.

Nice pics GSMguy. Is that a true red rose anemone?

thanks
it is bright red with a green oral disk and tan colored foot not all red.

it is a clone from a mother that has been in captivity for 7 years and now it split for me

If anyone has an extra they could part with, please let me know. Since one of my Rod's onyx died, the other has been so sad! :(

nice clowns guys. mine are coming on 2 years now and their black never came in like that. I guess I didnt feed mine right :(

I'll throw this one up on the rods thread too. Here is mine I got from his "slow to color" group of leftovers he had. Goes to show you even those can become onyx :)

How long did it take for that color to come in? I've had mine for about 3-4 months now and still not blackening up more. :(

I have some of the "slow to color" ones as well, one didn't have any black on it but in the last month has started to show some.. not as solid as these full grown pics, but they're still litte'ns. I noticed good spurts of black growth though when I was feeding 3 times a day, alternating stuff, but mostly w/ the ORA Glo that I crushed up into a finer powder so they could eat it. I don't know if this is truly helping, but seems to be.. I know my cyano loves it too :D

How do you crush up your ORA Glo? I've been trying different ways, but can't seem to crack the stuff.

it's pretty resiliant! I took a bunch in a ziploc and used a rolling pin. It didn't crush it all, but there was enough smaller stuff in the bag to last a while. When I run out of that, i'll just re-roll the bag to get some more. I have taken it and squished some between two spoons before as well.
