Time for a bit of an update. I have been taking this part extra slow because i think the plumbing is the most tricky. And, so far, I was right.
The way room and the tanks are laid out is the following (and you can see it in the pictures.
Front: Sump (72x24x24) in stand
Left Side: Refugium (48x18x24) on a stand (1 inch drain, 1 inch return)
Right Side: Eel Tank (48x24x24) on a stand (2 1.5 inch drains, 1 inch return over the top and split.
Center: Frag tank (72x24x12) on a low stand (2 1.5 inch drains, 1 inch return split)
So , here is how the plumbing works that I have done to date keeping in mind that te display tank is still in the backyard:
Sump to display (1/3 plumbed) goes through a Super Dart Gold and T's (will go up and down the front and back of the tank with multiple outputs (locline))
Sump to other tanks: Through a Super Dart Gold, splits 3 ways into each tank
Sump to skimmer: Though a MD100 to skimmer and back
Returns all go to one end of the sump.
So, I got the majority of that plumbed last week. Then I started preparing the baffles. Remember all the drain lines will go into the right of the sump and flow to the left where the return pumps are.
So, I built three baffles to handle the bubbles.
And it was time to do a leak test. I should mention that in the back corner of the room I have a 135g water holding tank that has a MD70 on it that will pump water through itself (for salt mixing) or T off and dump into the sump.
So, I mixed up salt water (about 125g) overnight and then redirected the water into the sump!!!! Hurray!!! Everything is getting wet finally!
And then my first baffle blew the seam and knocked out the middle baffle!!!! ARGHHHH. No big deal though. Time to test the rest of the plumbing.
So, I fired up the first pump to fill the refugium. And, I had water everywhere!! Turns out I didn't tighten one of the bulkheads. Okay, easy enough.
Then to fire up the eel tank (which was already full of water because it was cooking my rock. Well, I discovered 2 new leaks. I am really good at making leaks.
So, everything got shut down, the remaining water in the sump was pumped into the refugium since it needs to be filled anyway. I let the sump dry out and ripped out the baffles.
I used the wrong silicon sealant for one. So, I switched to silicone II. I used a lot more. And, I also built additional braces on the baffles.
Tonight I test again!!!! IF all goes well, I can huddle up soem guys and attempt the tank move next weekend.
And, as a payoff for reading all of that, I leave you with some updated pictures!
