2 Quick questions

I have the 175 oceaonic bowfront, and I have two 6100's on a timer and love them. Tank is mostly sps with a few softies and zoos

now the questions

1. I dont want to go with a wavebox in the bowfront due to it never being tested (yeah Im a chicken) so is another couple 6100's overkill? That would be 4 in a tank that is 72 long 30 wide and 30 deep

2. I heard that to increase flow to cut the intake on the 6100's cover. I dont like that idea of cutting up something that expenisve. I also read that you can replace the front intake panel with that of the 6200 and it will increase flow. True? and if so are those available to buy?

thanks in advance for your commitment to these boards and the questions we ask.

The 6200 Screen does not increase flow and the flow should not be restricted by the screen unless it is dirty, cutting out teeth will only increase the risk of damage. What the 6200 screen will do is diffuse and broaden the flow. It will shorten the travel. Some people here have done it, I would try to get their feedback.

so if I went to 4 6100's in the tank with the 6200 screens the flow would be broader but shorter than with the normal 6100 screens correct?

Yes, but I don't know that the screens are necessary, I would get input from someone who has done it, the screens are expensive ($50) and you tank is not wide enough to benefit from the broader flow. For example both a 6100 and 6200 have a 7ft span of flow, the 6200 though has a 30" wide pattern vs the 24" wide pattern of the 6100. My guess is the 6200 screen would give a 5ft by 30" wide flow, this is probably not going to do anygood given your tank width will channel it back to 18-24"
