roggers food vs rods

Rod's clouded my water some, not bad, but Rogger's is at a whole other level. I think it is the extra "g" that puts him over the top.

my fish love roggers food,I use the mesh with a clip I only have to feed ones a day thank you rogger for making my live much easier :)

I used it pretty much exclusively when I could get my hands on it before the tank came down. Lots of friends have been using it lately and all say good things about it. Always smelled yummy, not fishy like a bait bucket.

Hi,...any new thoughts on the two? I know this is an old thread but was wondering if anything has changed with them. I see Dr F&S currently has a sale going on both. Thanks,---Rick

I used to use Rogger's until the LFS that was convenient for me to get it at closed. There are some videos floating around on how Rogger makes his food. One day out of pure curiosity I decided to make some. It's actually pretty easy if you can get past the initial investment and are ok making a ton of food. Some locals will offer to split costs if you ask around. I just made a batch recently.....

Pic above is after chopping but before blending. I add garlic, spirulina, cyclopeeze, reef roids, and Vitachem to my blend. The guy at the counter always looks confused when I ask for such small portions of each seafood ingredient. Like one bite-sized piece of octopus lol!:D

I currently use Rods food purely because Rogger's isn't available near me, and I don't use enough in my nano tank to justify buying small batches and paying shipping or buying enough food to qualify for free shipping. I've asked my LFS and they used to carry it but now kinda shrug their shoulders when I ask about it.

With my 120g SPS reef with a bunch of medium and large fishes, I used to feed it and cyclopeeze, and it was great, and I would gladly feed it again if I could get it easily.

As far as alternating foods, I would rotate between frozen PE Mysis and Rogger's mix, and supplementally feed cyclopeeze on occasion - again all on my big tank.

If I had to choose 1, it would be Rogger's food, since I know it's all really well put together, well thought out, and well sourced.

Not sure if that question was directed at me but my homemade blend is the staple of my feeding. I usually break off a good chunk of it and add 2 cubes of mysis, bloodworms, sometimes brine and usually more reef roids. That usually lasts me a few days. If my tank is running high nutrient I back off on the extras and just feed my blend as it is really clean.

So do you store the chunk and the cubes in the frig and feed for a few days? Is that what you are saying? Why don't you add the bloodworms and mysis to the food mix when you make it?

Good question, I don't have a real answer. I guess when I first made it I was just "making Roggers Food". I just settled into it. I do like the option of pulling back on the extras if I want. Plus, I don't want to thaw all that mysis just to freeze it again.

I usually freeze it in ziplock sheets just like Rogger does. I'll usually make about 3-4 medium bags worth then I'll pack all those into a larger freezer gallon bag for extra protection. My first batch lasted me about 4-5 months. I'm due to run out next week and then I have my next batch ready (one I posted a pic of).

I have 2 dedicated small Tupperware containers where I keep my food in fridge and I usually just leave a small spoon on top that I use to dispense the food. Just a habit I sort of fell in to. I feed very carefully and deliberately. Maybe one day I'll post some pics lol!

I think you missed a few ingredients, unless you didnt list them all.

Also- Looking at that bag in the pic, Beef Jerky is NOT part of the recipe. :headwally:

No, I listed my "additives". Base is shrimp, then mussels, clams, lobster, calamari, octopus, scallops aloe and they didn't have oysters. Shrimp is like 65-70% of the bulk, maybe more. I can't believe you made me list that lol!

So dont call it Roggers unless you have the actual ingredients, LOL. :hammer:

Rogger is " The Godfather"- one day he will put us all to shame, again, when he sets up his next tank. :bounce3: Hint Hint Rogger.

Seems most of the thread is pro Rogger's. I think I'll give some a try since Dr F&S has it on sale. Anyone add anything into the Rogger's mix such as vitamins ect.?... or leave well enough alone. Thanks,---Rick

I called it "Roggers Food" because I followed "Roggers" video on "how to make 'Roggers Food'".....got it? Dale!
