Room for a Bluethroat Trigger?

Hey everyone,

I have a 6' 155g Bow front mixed reef. Upgraded from a 75g back in January, everything has been going pretty well with it. Here is my current stock list:

Current fish:
Kole tang
Yellow tang
Flamehawk
Firefish
Bicolor blenny
Melanurus wrasse
Christmas Wrasse
1 chromis
2 Picasso clowns

Everyone is getting along well, with the Yellow Tang as the undisputed tank boss.

I plan to add one more fish. A dwarf angel, or a Bluethroat Trigger.

I'm concerned this will be too many big fish. Bioload-wise, i think i can handle it, but i'm worried about aggression.

Looking to hear thoughts from anyone if you guys have them.

Thanks in advance!

I've had them before. They are a sweet fish. To be totally honest, it likely would be ok, but they get to around 9", and I think at the end of the day, the dimensions might be a bit restrictive.

I wouldn't after seeing what they behave like.

I've always wanted a Bluethroat Trigger, but my tank is too small. I'd try one in a 155 gl. If you go with a dwarf angel, what kind would you get?

I have a pair in my 150 cube. They are awesome fish with great personality. Mine are model citizens for most part although It did attack a small yasha goby I tried to add last week. Lives with 4 anthias, 2 clowns as well as 4 wrasses and Powder blue tang. Won't be disappointed if you get this fish.

Thanks for the input, how long have you had them all together?

Over a year. Was able to hand pick from wholesaler and put them in together. Mine have stayed same size over past year. They eat a lot and steal food from other fish. Need a good rated skimmer

The thing with triggers is that they are super active.

The one thing I don't like about this thread is I'm now thinking about getting a tiny one.

Dang it.

Got a small female blue throat in a 120 and she seems happy. Also got a powder brown tang and I`d give the most laps in a day to the trigger. She does stop at night when the brown just keeps going tho...

blue throat would do fine in a 155. the only thing i dont like about them is they are very very shy. mine hides all the time even after years of being in my tank.

How big is your setup? You think he'd be fine with a yellow tang and Kole tang in a 155.?

Bluethroats are awesome fish. Very pretty too, lots of detail to their colors. Had a pair in my 180. Lost the female to a terrible velvet outbreak early on. The male survived and was with me till just last week when I rehomed him as he was getting too large for my tank.

They eventually will grow to 9" and will outgrow your 155. However, you might get a year or two. If you have a way to get him/her out and a place to rehome him/her I would say give it a go. Catching them in s full blown reef can be quit a challenge though.

As others have said they are very active. They also eat a lot. So an active fish that devours a half a cube of food like it is nothing means a lot of poop! They are messy. That was another big reason for me moving my Bluethroat on. Tons of bio load come with this fish as it reached the 4-5" range.

mine is in a 125. are ur yellow tangs aggressive? my tangs left my blue throat alone when first introduced. it eats like a pig and would only come out when i approached the tank. anyone else, he would hide.

Nah the yellow tang isn't too bad. How long have you had him? How big is he?

Thanks! I'll definitely keep this in mind! Kinda leaning towards skipping the trigger and going with an African Flameback
