Room for Purple Tang or wrasses?

My tank is a standard 120 gallon no corals.

Current stock list :

Hi-fin goby
Firefish
Pair of black and white clowns
Midas blenny
Starry blenny
4 carberryi anthias

Fire shrimp
Various snails and hermits
Sand sifting star
Blue tuxedo urchin
Chocolate chip star

Future stocking plans :

Trio of dwarf angels (flames most likely)
More inverts


I would like to also add a Purple Tang. l am also interested in wrasses.

I definitely adding the angle trio. I do not want aggression issues or overcrowding.

Do I have room for tang and/or wrasses?

I would either do just the tang, or the angels. Not both. Just my opinion, I feel like that would be too many larger fish. Always nice to see a large tank with many small fish.

My question is, how long is the 120? 4ft or 5ft? If 4ft, I probably would not do the PT, instead opting for the 2-3 wrasses. I would not do a Trio of angels in that size tank neither.

I am definitely leaning towards the wrasses. I am not sure on species. Suggestions?

I would not recommend a trio of angels. I would go with the fairy and flasher wrasses.

I agree. And even some of the fairy wrasses can get fairly large. My ruby headed wrasse started to look pretty big in my 120. He's much happier in a 300. :0) Flashers and small fairy wrasses are my recommendation. Less aggression too (hopefully).

How come? Size of tank? I get such different answers depending on who responds. I get some that say a 120 is too small for a trio and others say it is enough space plus some. It seems to be 50/50 depending on the day and section of the forum.

as someone that has both a standard 120 and a purple tang for over a year and a trio of wrasses i say go for it man. the tang is without question the boss of the tank but doesn't seem cramped or overly belligerent.
one thing that i should mention is that in designing my aquascape i had a tang in mind which basically means i left it very open for swimming and a couple of caves for it to retreat to but i also made sure to do the same for wrasses with a sand bottom and smaller caves for the smaller fish.

Thanks! And thanks to the others who commented. It just makes one wonder who to listen to. Many have said 70+ for a trio of dwarf angels and many others say 5' 150 minimum for even a pair.
