Hi everyone!

I wanted to check before adding any other fish that will compete for the copepods with my mandarin. It's a 150gal tank with a small fugue with LR and chaeto, the fuge was built only to keep the mandarin since my params are in check needles of the chaeto.

Current stock:
2xOcellaris
Orange shoulder tang
Blue lined scribbled rabbitfish
Watchmen goby

I wanted to add:
Yellow wrasse
2x flasher warasse
2x fairy wrasse

Thanks for the input!

Regards

Tank is an upgrade from a 75gal I upgraded 1.5years ago and the original tank had been setup several years ago, I currently have around 200 pounds of LR. I've had the mandarin for 3months now and it's fat and happy, also I can easily see the pods at night all around so no problem with the population so far, I just don't want the mandarin to have competition, that's why I havent added any wrasses.

yellow wrasse will take down a lot of pods. they're great predators. the flashers and fairy's will be easier on the pods.

I actually meant anampses melanurus, white spotted wrasse. I believe this would the correct id, I think he'll be fine. I want to add this wrasse and a flasher, but they are out of flashers at the LFS.

What do y'all think?

So.....
Im gonna get the spotted wrasse today, hope i dont get a late post saying it was the worst thing ever hehe

Thats the one! And it's in the tank, it was introduced this afternoon to the tank and it has shown a shy behavior as usual for new fishes... Hopefully everything will go well!

Thanks for the posts! That doesn't sound like good news for a flasher wrasse hehe.... Do you think I'd introduce the flasher soon enough it'll be ok? Or simply wrasses are out for good.

Keep us posted. You should be fine assuming a strong pod population. We have blue stars and don't think we would try a mandarin unless it was eating frozen and pellets with vigor. Our blue stars are uber pod hunters.

So far not seen the new guy... I guess he's buried in the sand taking it easy!
As of my pod population its pretty good i think, even with the mandarin i can see a lot of pods at night with a flashlight, i hope it stays that way with the new wrasse.

when the wrasse come out ill try to get a pic, like i said TRY hehe

Why not try a yellow assesor instead of the wrasse? I don't think they are much interested in pods compared to the wrasse.

Yes the blue and red mandarins are my favorite, but they had the green spotted one at the LFS and had been there for like 7 days eating nothing, it was really skinny and since I wanted a mandarin I figured I'd take him home instead of waiting for a blue/red one
