Hi all,
I got a RBTA 3 days ago and after one night he has disappeared. This is what I have:

2 anthias
melanarus wrasse
engineer goby
mystery wrasse
helfrichi firefish
potters angel
bicolor goby
mandarin
2 pygmy hawkfish
4 emerald crabs
various snails and tiny red legged hermit
Help anyone?

It may have retreated into the crevice of a rock or hiding somewhere you can't see it. How small was it?

Uninflated it was probably a good half dollar size maybe little bigger. I'm assuming it retreated into a crevice but why? I thought they get their nutrients from light and various debris passing by

He is likely stressed from the move into your tank. It can take a while for him to get used to his new home

As long as your water parameters are good, and the flow and lighting are in line with what he needs, he will come out of hiding when ready. RBTA are known to move, even more when stressed or something has changed that they don't like

How did you acclimate him to your tank?

I would be looking around. If he isnt coming around for light or flow, you have a problem. :( Hope he comes out or you gotta grab a flash light and search.

I just got a RBTA and it went and hid under a rock shelf during the first night and has been there for the past 2 days.

I turned on my full actinic lighting which helped find it since there was enough light reflecting to cause it to glow a little.

I guess a related question to this is what you do with flow when the thing is adjusting? I was under the impression you should leave powerheads off while it is searching for a home so it does not get sucked up. Now I am wondering how that actually works since with the powerheads off the nem cannot get an idea for where the 'best' spots are for flow.

He actually popped up yesterday on the back side of the tank so he is alive but disappeared again today so who knows

Yea mine is still living under a rock in the dark.. it reminds me of something out of an aliens movie, can see the red tentacles reaching down from the rockwork.

I just got a RBTA 2 days ago as well. When I first put it in it seemed like it was doing great. It even bubbled up the tips a little. I put it in just before lights out. I left for a day and came back to find it gone. Yes i know they move but i have seached everywhere and cant find it... I did find some tiny pieces of what im pretty sure are the tenticles im talking approximately 1/8" I know they are from him bc they grow red under my blue leds. The RBTA was pretty big when i got it out stretched it was about 9" long 2" diameter. It had just slpit from another.

Is it possible that my Fire Clown killed, destroyed and ate it? Im hoping thats not the case... But its the only thing i can think of as to why there were little pieces laying on the bottom of the tank in a low flow area.

It's possible it got caught in a powerhead and torn to bits but with one that big I would expect to see bigger parts left.

mine went into the power head the second day ... Now i have 4 little ones after i got him out he spit ...

But you should does a water change if you think he got into the power head as they let off nasty stuff when then they stressed well ... Also change your carben out

I guess everyone had the RBTA itch this weekend, I have been wanting one for a while and my tank has finally stabilized so I was like f' it I am going to buy one.

I turned my powerheads back on and now I am coming home every day half expecting to see a RBTA massacre.. /knock on wood.

I just put in some new 60 Cree 3watt LED and my RBTA went under the rock. I thought it loved light. Perhaps too bright or will it acclimate? I guess time reveals all.

That is basically what happened for me, in the store they have everything under MH that are about 3-4 feet above the racks.

I have a 24x3w LED fixture about 4 inches off the water so it ran and hid.

Funny thing is now it settled itself up in the top of the rockwork but towards the back so it is high up but out of the direct beam of light.

Was out and bubbled up when I got home then when lights went out was in full feeding mode and ate a lot.

How many hours a day are you running your lights. What and how are you doing feelings? My anemone moved to back and looks like it wants to climb.
