rose nem's and led lighting. nem not happy?

hello,

does anyone have experience with led lighting and a rose nem?

i just installed an acan 102 led lighting system on my 90g cube 24" deep that is suspended about 12" from the water surface.

the previous light was a 250w de phoenix on a lumenarc elite reflector that was 4" from the surface.

the led's 'appear' brighter than the mh but i dont have a par or lux meter.

everything in the tank has responded well to the new light. max clams on the bottom, fox lps to another smaller rose nem...except for the old timer rose nem. fully opened, he is about 14" across...but at the moment with the led lights, he is a shriveled up ball.

what do y'all think? it has been two days. do you think mr nem needs just a few more days?

Takes awhile to adjust to diff light source. Thinking of LED change soon

when i added exo. panorama stunners to my tank ( just the blue strip, still kept my leds) my rbta bubbled up for a few days... but let me tell you it was sweeeet! but yea it just prolly needs a few days to adjust

Mines doing fine under LEDs. I've never seen the Acan 102, but based on the manufacturer's claim of using bulbs similar to Cree XP-G's driven at 1 to 1.3 A, it should be plenty.

yep! y'all predicted that it just needed a few days to acclimate...and it has. the rose nem is fully open to its full glory again and appears to be doing great!

the acan lighting is the american release of the eco-lighting that is found in europe. it has a very thin profile and is pretty aesthetic! i have never run led's so i was a little nervous...but so far, the led's have definitely convinced me that they seem to have arrived.

as a diehard metal halide guy...i will continue to watch the led's performance. i never believed the advertisement that you wont need a chiller with led's. well, it is a little true. the chiller on that tank hardly comes on now. with the halides, chiller use was much more noticeable!

yup, LEDs are here to stay - a pretty viable alternative to MH lights.

run cooler, thinner , electricity costs halved, no need to replace bulbs... everyday they sound more attractive

color is 'about' the same.

because i was running a phoenix 14k...the bulb was pretty blue, so things look about the same with the led's.

but!

the led's color crispness is much better than the mh's...

thus, with crisper coloring and electrical savings...i like the switch to led's.

what i dont like about led's is the cost. led fixtures are still fairly expensive compared to t5 set up and mh with or without actinic supp...but, if the manufacturer claim of 5 years of bulb life...well, it is still expensive.

i do notice though that my chiller rarely comes on. i thought the whole not needing a chiller with led's was a marketing gimmick...but yes, depending on your ambient room temp, my chiller rarely comes on where with the same room environment, the chiller was coming on regularly.

with southern california edison electrical rates...the chances of recouping the electrical savings switching from mh to led would be pretty close to zip...but with an initial set up...it would be a great (but expensive) first choice for lighting.
