Roti feast

Does Roti fast feed my LPS like SPS? I have GSP, Zoes , Duncan coral, and Acans. It causes my skimmer to go nuts.

They will feed all corals in your tank...most LPS have larger polyps/mouths, thus can eat larger sized foods like PE Mysis, rods food, ect.

You can turn your skimmer off for an hour or 2 after dosing roti/oyster/plankton foods to allow corals/critters to feed and not just get skimmed out. Plankton usually 'rise' from the reefs in nature upon sunset...so if you dose 30 min before lights off and leave skimmer off for a couple hrs after you will usually get most 'efficient' feedings from your corals.

After which, fire the skimmer back up and it should not overflow as bad.

Should I be running a filter sock in my sump from the DT? Wouldn't that filter out the food from my refugium as well?

How much are you dosing? Are you target feeding or just broadcast feeding?

Typically people cut power to their return pump prior to feeding so that the food can flow around the display before getting pulled into the over flow/filter sock, skimmer etc.

Gresham from Reef Nutrition advised dosing Oyster Feast before the other products to encourage polyp extension on LPS. After everything has extended, then they can more readily take up larger prey items. I have found that advice to be very helpful.

^^^^ +1. turn off you return pump for a couple hrs so mechanical/chemical filtration will seize and your main display will allow corals to feed. that is what alot of reefers do.

If you are feeding with larger foods (basting) your corals individually, then you may not need to turn off your return as you will be literally 'spoon feeding'.

Make sure you set a timer or something if you turn off ur return. I forgot to turn mine back on overnight and lost some fish.....
