12 Gallon Aquapod Mixed reef, been reefkeeping for close to 3 years and simply have a very aggressive Black Ocellaris. Has been in the tank for close to 4 maybe 5 months as the only clown, he actively bites and attacks my hand when doing tank maintnence ect.

This morning introduced a .75" True Perc, The Black Ocellaris is about 1.25" obvious size difference in both size and girth. This isn't the worst domination display, but it is pretty bad. The True perc is hovered in the corner of the tank sideways, no torn fins quite yet, and is breathing rapidly. The Black occ. goes from hosting his elegance to the top of the tank, dashing back and forth at the little true perc.

Upon introduction to the tank, the true perc submitted but the Black occ. won't stop.
Will it simply take a few days, the true perc is in no way close to death, but is simply stressed and out of breath, I'm just waiting for the black Occ. to accept him.

Should I wait a Couple of days or remove a fish?
Please Share your expierences, I Don't WANT TO KILL THIS CLOWN.

btw true perc is feeding.

Hello,
They may pair, not unheard of between occ and perc.
IMO if he is not trying to actively have a death match with the new clown you may be ok.

If the clown is stressed to the extreme you describe, you need to take it out, and fast. Some aggression is to be expected, but the clowns well being has to be the priority. Breathing hard is a sign of severe stress. This can kill the fish even if the Ocellaris never touches it. How long has The Perc been breathing hard?

I am trying to pair up two ocellaris clowns, one black and one orange, both the same size (2 inches).....have been in the tank for about 10 days...

The first 7 days were calm, then the for a few days it was real bad!!! The black clown would chase the orange to a certain part of the tank near the bottom.....if the orange moved she would chase her back.....It was very stressful for the orange I am sure....However, recently in the past day or two they have gotten more used to eachother and fight not as much. Usually when I feed it is worse....

So I know that you are trying to pair two different species, but kinda similar to me trying to pair different colors....I would give it time for both of us to see exactly what will happen...

Its not so much the difference in species or color (true percs and occ. are extremely closely related, and i'm sure they couldn't tell the difference, same with color)

the tank is much calmer today, a little chase here and there, but the little true perc is feeding and it looks hopeful.

the last 3 clowns, just couldn't servive the wrath of the Black Ocellaris
this guy is the first...
