Royal-Exclusiv / Vertex Cone Skimmer Club

im looking to buy a Aplha 200 but can only get it in 110v. We have 220v power supply here, are the pump 220v capable or should i just buy a 220v-110v transformer to run it?

Unfortunately you can not use a transformer on these pumps, as the motorblocks are either 50hz or 60hz, they can't be interchanged.

Jeremy,

Alpha 200

skimmer is in 8.5" water
4 turns out from closed on venturi

wedge pipe is 90-95% closed...

Is this ok ? Since im running is almost closed (wedge pipe) should raise the water level in the skimmer compartment? Or maybe adjust the venturi?

I love the skimmer with the avast swabbie!

If it's working fine just let it go. If not, then raise the sump level by 1/2" and slightly open the wedge pipe.

I bought a alpha 300 for an upgrade project and ended up going a little smaller tank than originally planned. My new tank will be a 225 now and im just wondering if this skimmer will still work for me or if its gonna be way to big for my build. Thoughts?

Alpha 250 MOD

Alpha 250 MOD

Just want to share my diy MOD to prevent the cup from overflowing.

This is a very simple mod and should not take long to do, if you decide to do it. It is not proffesional looking as you see on other skimmers. I just put this together with the least amount of $$$. Here is how I did it.

The items that I used. ATO, Plastic pen, Electric wire, Wire clips and interlocking connectors.

This is the cap of the collection cup. I was lucky the it already had holes. You can easily drill one if yours does not have any.

I cut a piece of the pen. This will be used to route the wire through. Make sure that it is plastic.

I made four cuts on it and bend the cuts back to make it look like helicopter blades.

This is why the pen needs to be plastic.

Insert it in the hole and glue.

I cut the float from the ATO and marked one of the wires.

Pass the wires attached to the float, through the glued piece of plastic on the collection cup cap and glue.

This is what it should look like all glued.

In this pic you can see that I extended the wire attached to the ATO switch and also connected the interlocking connector to the other end.

Here it is in the collection cup.

Hi all, I officially joined the club last month! One question though- how much power should a Alpha 170 be drawing exactly? Put a meter on mine and its drawing 38-42w. Specifications for Red Dragon claim only 18w so thats a big difference ?

Anybody use a 300 on the lower end of recommendations? 225 up to 600 is a pretty big gap.

Woke up the other morning and my 200 is overflowing and I have done nothing to my system to cause this. Alot of micro bubbles coming from the output. Its sitting in 9 1/2" of water, the same as its always been. I even raised the skimmer 1" to see if that would help and it didnt. When I took the pump out everything looks fine but cleaned it anyway, but that didnt help. The impeller , everything looks good. Tested it in the sink and theres not hardly any water pressure just micro bubbles. Any ideas on what my next move should be? This skimmer is over 2 years old or right at it. Hate to see it sitting in the garage after spending the money I have on this. Could use some help figuring this out. Other people have had this problem so what did you do to fix it? Does it sound like the pump is bad, and if so who can rebuild it or buy a new one?
