Royal Gramma and Black Cap Basslets?

I've recently read a thread where one commenter had kept a pair of Royal Grammas along side a single Black Cap and mentioned that they all "hang out" together. Being that they exhibit that behavior, I doubt that the aquarium size is much of a factor.

Anyone else out there have similar experiences?

I always assumed that the more aggressive, and larger, Black Caps would not tolerate another Basslet unless in a very large system.

Thanks
Mike

I did keep both in my 120 gal. few years ago. Both were introduced at the same time, i saw no aggression whatsoever between those two. They did not hang out together, but stayed on opposite sides of aquarium.

Hey that was me, it's a90 gallon , I got them all the same time, and they were all in qt together, and put into the tank at the same time. They are all about 2.5 inches , and yea they all hang out together they have established the right side of the tank , I have lots of live rock and they all have their little caves.

They don't fight or hassle each other. Very cool

GrkGod36 - yes that was yours... I didn't want to ask you about it there to take away from the OP, and I was looking to see what others had experienced.

I can definitely see where adding them at the same time to the DT would increase the odds but I was a bit surprised to see that they were able to be in QT at the same time--it leads me to think that if they didn't fight there, then they wouldn't fight anywhere (depending on QT and DT size)--although this hobby has plenty of stories or what worked for one did not for another.

On that note, what size QT did you house them in?

they were qt'd in a 50 gallon tank. with the normal pvc pipes etc. i ordered them from kp aquatics, they were great to deal with and fish came in looking great ,over night shipping.

i will get some video of the little guys for you to show you they are neat to look at.

Grkgod36 - yeah, would love to see the video. I won't be able to add them at the same time because I already have a Royal Gramma pair but they are going into a 210 so the space, about 300 lb. of rock and using an acclimation box may help.

I was considering a Black Cap to my 360 DT. My Royal Gramma is my oldest living fish so I don't want to put him in danger but I feel like an 8' tank should give them plenty of room to avoid one another. Any thoughts?

I wish I had added both at the same time. My gramma almost never ventures outside his cave except to eat. It's a shame I can't see his beautiful colors more often. I only have a 65 gallon though, so I won't be adding a black cap now.
