Royal Gramma mia--FOUND (with popeye)

I thought I lost my royal gramma in the CHS tank. Hadn't seen him for 2-3 weeks. Thought the carpet anemone got him since he chose a cave near it.

Surprise! He made a mad dash for a quick bite of food today and then disappeared behind a pillar of rock--apparently he has a new cave that I cannot see. However, for the brief moment I saw him I noted that his right eye was massive--totally bulged out.

Research says that since it is only one eye and no other fish has signs of eye trouble that it is likely trauma--bruised eye, if you will. That sound about right to you guys?

I had spent the last 11 days manning a trap trying to catch a yellow-tail blue damsel (victory Sunday afternoon--he's now in the LR sump <beers flowing all night for that!>). He had been chasing the gramma, a coral beauty addition (briefly) and both clowns. Sent a flame hawkfish into the overflows twice a day for a week. He probably would have bit me if I were swimming in the tank.

Do you suppose that is why the gramma is back out (at least briefly) and is it likely that the damsel chased him until he bumped into the LR or some such scenario? That's my best guess. What else would have caused eye trauma?

TIA

It's possible. Epsom salts will help with the swelling of the popeye. I do agree, it's most likely a mechanical injury, if it's unilateral. Not sure what the ratio of salt per gallon of water should be, though.

Thanks, Karina. I read that about Epsom salts. I dose it as a mag supplement. I wonder what spiking mag might do . . .

Cheers
