Royal Gramma VS Firefish

I currently have a 55 with 1 blue cromis, 1 gramma, 1 small yellow tang, 1 coral banded shrimp, and a mixed reef. Would a firefish be ok with these tank mates, thanks, Ed

I had a gramma and a firefish and a yellow tang together for over 2 years without issue. But I think as with most fish it is the luck of the draw..hth

they will be fine, both are 2 of my fav fish and i have always kept them together with out incident. I currently have 2 dartfish and a royal gamma in my tank. my last tank which was a 55 had a dartfish and royal gamma.

In a 30g w/ about 40 lbs of live rock I have a clown, gamma, and firefish ...all is well. The gamma will open his mouth in a fighting gesture time to time but never does anything. I believe its a hit or miss with these guys.

I would be concerned about both the royal gramma, and the coral banded shrimp -- those shrimps have been know to attack/eat fish, usually smaller slow swimming ones.
The last gramma that I had was very aggressive, and didn't take too kindly to new comers. It actually got into a "fight" with a fairy wrasse that I had, it grabbed onto the wrasse by the mouth, and didn't let go for about 5 minutes or so. The wrasse was a bit shaken up, but ended up being okay. In a sense of poetic justice, the gramma injured its mouth and could no longer fed.

I've heard that about the CBS before but I have had him for a couple of years now and haven't seen any aggression from him whatsoever. The gramma is new to me, I've had him for about 3 mths, he seems to be a little defensive of his hole In the liverock.

Every firefish I put into my 55gal died untill after I lost my royal psuedochromis. He was quite a mean fish and I'm not sure he is to blame but they are the only fishes I lost except a clown tang(I did say 55gal right, rookie mistake).

But each fish is different, good luck!

in my 75g sofftie tank i have everything listed except for the chromis (pink skunk clown pair instead) and a scissor tail dartfish for about a year they have all been together and i have absolutly no agression within the tank, the gramma and the purple fire fish both spend the majority of the lights on period out in the open and dont even notice the other.. i lost the dart fish from stupidity during tank maint check your filter socks before you leave them laying out for hours after tank mait.. i scared the dart fish to jump while rearanging rock to accomidate coral growth

One issue is that the Royal Gramma will defend it's territory pretty aggressively, but if the firefish stays away, it all works out. In a 55, it all depends on where the fish set up shop.

I had a royal gramma, a yellow tang and a purple firefish together for over 5 years without issue. They were my first fish though and therefore there was nothing else in the (55g) tank and added them all at once. Not sure if adding them together, to a new tank made a difference....

I had a gramma, a purple firefish and the red firefish all together in a 110 gal, along with 4 tangs and clowns. No problems. I had to do hyposalinity for Ich, though, and the Royal Gramma did not tolerate that and died. But, there were no issues with fish fighting before that.

In my experience the psuedochromis fish are much more aggressive than the grammas.

I have both a red firefish and a royal gramma in my 120. They were the last of 12 fish that were added... not sure if the other fish have put them in line or not but no agression whatsoever between those two.
