Royal Gramma's = My Worst Nightmare.

Hi guys and gals.

I feel like such a noob but I simply cannot keep a Royal Gramma alive.

I have far more sensitive fish in my tank, Achillies Tang, Hippo Tang, Leopard Wrasse, Mandarin to name a few but I have had so much trouble keeping Royal Gramma.

I have had 3 that have died with in a day or two of introducing them to my tank and one that I have had for the last 3 months I woke up to him on the sandbed.

My params are bang on, there are tons of places to hide, I feed a variety of high quality foods and there is no aggression towards them. I just cant figure it out. To make things worse, this is my daughter AND wifes favorite fish and I just cant seem to keep it alive.

Is there something I am missing? Are they susceptable to stress? Are they caught or transported poorly? Everywhere I see peple saying these are easy fish yet I cant seem to figure them out.

Could be Royal Grammas are not compatible with the fish you already have. Another problem could be that any 'rock spots' attractive to Royal Grammas are already occupied so there is nowhere for a RG to 'live.'

Grammas like rather quiet tanks with lots of caves.
I have 3, a male and two females, in my sump tank together with a baby regal angel, a pair of percula, a pair of Banggais and two bicolor blennies.
They seem to like it there.

In terms of water quality they are not too sensitive - I had these 3 for 6 months in a 10 gallon QT which they at times shared with another pair of percula and two Marine Bettas.

They may be a bit sensitive in the beginning, but once acclimated and quarantined they should be fine.

:headwalls:Over the last 3 years I have attempted 11 total royal grammar. I cannot keep them alive either.. idk what it is but they are just hads.

Where about in the world are you?
My best bet would be that it could be shipping if you live somewhere like Australia, or it could be like others said and they have no territories to live in.

Im in Canada, Toronto to be specific.

One thing I just realized is that I have bought all my RG's from the same supplier. Maybe they are the issue?

I have 3 along with a black cap basslet and they all hangout together and are fine. I have tons or rock with caves they live under my bubble coral in this little cave complex they dart in and out all day
