I just went and looked at my tank a few minutes ago and noticed that a new Acro colony I got week ago from a fellow reefer is RTNing from the base up. i pulled out my bone cutters and fraged the crap out of it. is there any chance that the frags will survive?
sorry i dont have my water pram's up yet im doing this in a rush and very frustrated.

Ok, I need help. The second frag in two days. I think the last was also RTN, this one is definitely RTN.

What can I do? Can I epoxy over the base that is losing tissue, or do I need to pull it and frag it?

:(

hi
i have too a colonu of acro brush, it have RTN and frag in some piece, nothing survive
can't spred to the another colony, how can preven RTN en another
thanks all

I've been having rtn from the AEFW treatments and water changes (daily on the treatment tank) seem to be holding it at bay so far. Don't know if that helps rtn not caused by treatments, but might be worth a shot (despite the salt costs...).

I my experience, RTN corals never make it. The frag usually dies also. On the other hand STN corals can and usually do recover. No one really knows for sure the causes. My thoughts are it's somehow stress related. Check all your water parms. Make sure your system is very stable... Good Luck

Well, as expected. The frags of the RTN piece started peeling by the end of the day. I went ahead and pulled them out last night. All other corals seem fine today, but I have a little ammonia in the tank (<.1ppm) probably from the dead tissue in a small tank.

Ah, well, i'll just keep doing small water changes and hope none of the other corals start peeling off. :(

i had a rose milli frag start to rtn....fragged the frag up, lol....that was about two months ago.... the two little frags seem to be doing very good (knock on wood). they are putting down bases and starting to color up.... but rtn is def not fun....

If it is RTN it will most likely be dead with in 24 hours. All other tissue necrosis is considered STN.

I have had luck stoppping STN with a Lugol's treatment. Do this outside the tank. Take a Qtip or the like, dip in Lugols. Gently trace the edge of ALL stn'ing tissue. Hold outside water for 30 sec or so then rinse and place back in tank. This has saved 4 frags of mine and a friends colony.

I would recommend using a coral dip that attacks RTN before placing any new SPS corals into your aquarium. I use ReefPure Coral Dip & Conditioner, which attacks RTN By Warner Marine Research.

If RTN is detected in any specimen in the display aquarium, it should be removed from the tank as soon as possible to avoid further RTN reactions in healthy corals.
