ahh one of my M. digitata colonies started RTN on me about a week ago, i beleive because of the high temperatures. I accepted the loss, but now it seems to have spread to other montiporas and a large M. Capricornis got it in the past few days. Everything is fine but ill go out today and get new calcium, alk, and make sure my pH tester is correct. Any ideas on how to stop it or what to change? No acros or anything else have gotten it so far, only Montiporas. I want to stop it before it kills any more and hopefully not the M. danae or any acros. thanks for your oppinions and help!

Matt

Any recent additions to the monti collection? I ask because it sounds as though you may have a predator. Typically montis, particularly digitata, are more hardy than acros so if it was the temp issue your acros should have shown signs as well.

Look closely at the corals along the tissue death line and check for monti Nudis. Tiny little buggers about 1/8 inch in size.

Hope I am wrong though.

thanks doubledown,

and yes, i purchased some frags from the swap at oceans floor and from ladipyg when she was selling off her stuff. I was kind of suspecting some type of preditor possibly that is also bothering my T. gigus clam. i also have a t. derasa that shows no signs of anything bother him though. ill keep a keen eye and check after lights are out too. thanks! ill keep you updated.

Yeh!! Sounded like a Nudi!.......Hope I'm wrong.

Monti. nudis are nucternal, hides during the day and feeds at night.........the bigest size, about a grain of rice from white ,baige or pinkish, resembles Berghias only smaller.

Good luck, Matt

thanks Menard

is there anything that eats them, if thats what it really is? like a sixline wrasse or something? just now i couldnt see any thing like that when i checked but ill do a more thorough check tonight after dark.

Matt

There are some wrasses that are supposed to eat them, Melanarus and Halocoris I believe. Radiant wrasse being one of those with an appetite for nudis (also pyramid snails that may be bothering your clam).

There are also others of the same family as the Radiant that are a bit less pricey and easier to get that will also eat the nasty litle blighters.

I had luck w/ Radiant Wrasse 5 yrs. ago when my tank was infested w/ it. Back then there was no known cure , just what they so called Coral dip conditioners, still U cant control whats in the tank.
My desperation lead me to this wrasses, I toss 6 of them in the tank, different variety. And Radiant among the first one to attack this buggers.

ok thanks guys

i did do some searching and see some really tiny things crawling around on there that are definitly not pods. ill have to get a wrasse tomorrow i guess. if they dont have a radiant, i saw a sixline wrasse not to far from me the other day. do they do the job or should i just get the radiant?
