Runaway Polyp

I need a little advice...

I have this Great little dime sized button polyp that I just love. I was going to attach it to a larger rock this weekend...

I was doing my usual rounds last night before bed and noticed my beloved polyp was missing! At first I was going to blame the long tentacles of my brittle star who loves to grab things and drag them into his cave...

Then I noticed something in the corner of my eye...

My Polyp up on the live rock near the top of the tank...

Then it moves. I first thought it was the current. WRONG...

A little blue leg hermit crab thought he needed a new stylish shell with a dime sized button polyp attached to it!

The polyp came attached to a shell... should have figured it would get stolen.

Is there anything I can do to rescue my polyp? I fear it will not survive as my hermit crab - now named Butch Cassidy - will run it into the live rock and such.

Should I try to cut the polyp off and attach it to another rock? Any ideas? Thanks!

I would take out the crab. Put it in a smaller container (rubbermaid, tupperware)with a few holes drilled in it. Let it float around the top of the tank and put a few empty shells in with it. The hermit will eventually change shells.
I use Lee's Specimen container. Like This
