Running a fuge

How are you guys piping in your fuge? I've seen some before the skimmer and after. I'm not sure if I want just chato or Marco or both. I have a 400 gallon I'm planning and would appreciate some ideas. I have about an extra 200 gallons worth of sumps going into my basement. I also have access to a 100 gallon tank on top of that if needed. How big of a fuge would be best for my dt?

I would go a big as you can for the space available. As far as before or after the skimmer thats a personal choice, doesn't make any real difference.

I have a 100 gallon fuge .It is sitting next to my sump and is a little higher than it so it drains by gravity back into the sump. (before the socks) It is fed by a small submersible pump in my sump. This way it is completely independent of failures in my system. Works perfect. My N and P are so low I have taken my skimmer off line!

The fuge is on the right (covered so no light gets out)The sump is on the left (skimmer shut down) You can see the 3/4" pipe connecting the two units. One for fill, one for return by gravity.Simple! The fuge is blacked out for light retention and so no algae grows on the sump because of leaking light

Ricardo nice set up all the way around. Love your aquascape too.

Is it just an overflow in the tank skimming the top of the water in your fuge?

a more recent photo.I am not sure of the question.I have a small pump in my sump feeding the Fuge. The Fuge returns into the sump by gravity before the socks...to catch any loose algae. It is a simple loop

Sorry meant to ask what do you have in your fuge as well?

Nothing...just Chaeto..bare bottom and one power head for additional flow.I stir things up once a week before my sock cleaning schedule.I have about 500GPH flow through the fuge. Grow lights on all night.

Sorry, what I meant was that it looks like a normal glass tank. I assume it has overflows built into for the return to the sump?

What type of light fixture are you running? Is the spectrum more on the red side?
