running fans over sump

I am in the process of upgrading to a 40 breeder display(open top with hanging MH) with a 15 gallon sump in the stand below the main tank. I have been thinking about putting my fans above the sump instead of above my display tank just because it looks better. Has anyone done this and does it keep the water as cool as putting them above your display tank? Thanks.

I wouldn't think it'd do as good of a job as fans over your display. Fans over your sump help increase evaporation and cool the tank by removing some of the heat from the water by removing some of the water itself. Fans over the canopy will do this as well but they'll also blow some of the radiant heat off the lights before it ever gets to the water.

Fans over the sump do a good job but they do nothing for removing heat from light fixtures.
