Running Zeo on an all-in-one tank

Hi all,

I am interested in trying Zeo out on my SPS tank. I have a JBJ Nanocube 28 gallon tank that has been up for about a year, with ~20 SPS corals. Growth is a bit slow, and colors could be better, so I am looking into Zeo.

One of the nice things about the all in one tank is that it is self contained, with no sump or hang on parts. The skimmer fits in a chamber in the back, as does the heater. Another chamber is currently holding carbon and GFO.

My main question is: can I run a Zeo system without any hang on or external reactors or chambers? Can I put the zeolites in a bag in the back chamber, with good water flow through them? Or can I run Zeo without the Zeolites, just with the live rock and sand bed that I currently have? Anyone have experience with this type of system?

Thanks,
Marc

A critical part of the system is the Zeolite Reactor which needs to be placed in a sump and "pumped" daily to release the bacterial mulm growing on the zeolite stones. Plumbing the reactor externally would not possible. Take a look at the Zeolite USA website.

Hi Marc!

You can also try to use the zeolites inside a bag and shake them twice each day. I've them in this way and the system runs properly. The main advantatge of the reactor is the fixed flow through the zeolites and that it's more comfortable to shake them.

Hi Marc,

Running ZEOvit on a small AIO system is completely possible. Placing the ZEOlites in a reactor does give you the best results but as mentioned already, you can place the ZEOlites in a media bag and shake this twice a day to release the mulm.

I've run a 12g AIO tank this way and I was happy with the results. I'm currently running a 20g system that was built around ZEOvit and have an inbuilt reactor for this system. You can find more details about in on my site, under ZEOnano9020.

If you're going to pursue ZEOvit, just take dosing slow and always, slightly less is better.

ZEOvit with nano reefs is possible, but can be somewhat tricky :)

Good luck.

Hi,

I currently have a JBJ 28 gal dominated by sps. If you have not upgraded the bulb from stock you may want to consider that.

I get great growth and coloration in my tank, although I like zeovite, it really is not a must to get good results with sps in a nano.

Following to see results if you go the zeovite route.
