Rusted Magnet

I bought the mp40w, set it up and have had it running for about 6 months. Within that 6 month period I noticed that all of my SPS was dying off. Half of my 125 gallon tank was SPS with a value of well over $1000.00 in coral. All of my parameters were spot on for keeping the coral healthy, I was at my local fish store, talking to fellow reefers here, and asking questions over and over of things that I already knew trying to get an answer as to why this was happening. Someone asked me is there anything rusty getting into the tank? I could not think of anything at all and I was really scratching my head. In the mean time my powerhead was spinning like ice cream in a blender and I had to take it off before it flew into another colony of zoas. When I took it off the backing plate on the wet side kind of wiggled and I took it off to check and see if something had come loose and I noticed the entire backside of the magnet was nothing but rust.
Well to bring a long search to an end I found the problem that was killing my sps and I was wondering if there was something that you could send me to swap out this magnet and a little bit of assurance that this kind of problem will not happen again. I really want to add more sps to my tank. I ran lots of carbon and used heavy lead reducing mats in my sump in the basement and after a month I believe I have all of the rust out of the system. I bought 2 pieces of sps and they seem to be doing fine for now but I am goint to wait it out a bit.

Please let me know what I can do as a $400.00 paperweight is not quite what I had in mind for my tank.

Thank you very much Jerry

The rust issue has been fixed with the new magnets, but I have to say that on a 125g system the rust from one magnet wont kill your corals. Many people run PO4 removing media in SPS systems with no problems. I think you should look for something else affecting your corals.

Thank You very much for getting back with me, I will get you that information when I get home this evening and we can get things going forward.
