I picked up a pair of these from my LFS on Friday, having originally intended to look for a mate for my maroon clown. They didn't have any small enough, but I saw a newly arrived pair of nigripes, bred by Sustainable Aquatics, at the store, and fell in love with them. I ended up trading my maroon in for them!
For anyone who's interested in nigripes, I have to put in a word for the SA-bred nigripes: mine have been outstanding. I was a little worried getting these clowns, having read from even expert aquarists that they were tricky to acclimate. I've also kept pink skunk clownfish before (also captive-bred, and IIRC part of the same species complex) and remembered how skittish they were, so I was prepared for nervous, flighty fish that would flee at my approach and take days, even months, to settle in.
But these captive-bred nigripes seem rock-solid. They eat well, are active (much livelier than the GSM, who, though beautiful, was content to just hang out in a cave), and seem interested rather than afraid when I approach the tank. They're beautiful, with a rich cinnamony-peachy-brown color and a perfect shape. And I kind of like having a somewhat uncommon (in captivity, anyway) species. Great fish!
