if I counted how many fish have comitted suicide on me I would be in morning for ever. lol.. heres a tissue and a marie book. also have you concidered inclosing the top of your tank. I am always worried my black finned fairy wrass is going to comit suicide. this fish is my pride and joy of my tank along with my clowns. and don't forget all my gobys gobys gobys gobys. did I mention I like goby's. lol
Of all the weird things my Manderin tried to commit suicide last night, luckily I heard him smack into the light strip and plopped him back in the tank, will have to check later to see if he made it.
Originally posted by soni personally I really don't like eggcrate. I will just stay with ones that don't jump as much
A friend and I were discussing jumpers and she feels that greater surface movement creates less jumpers. Still water at the top makes the fish think it goes on and on.
I don't agree here. I have tons of surface agitation with my Vortechs and my labouti has continuously tried to jump.
I have gone to using a nylon mesh over a eggcrate frame. Let's in the light, it's heavy enough the fish can't jump and the mesh is small enough even the smallest wrasse can't fit through..
I have 2 mjmod 1200's about 5 in down from the surface. I also have 2 seio 820's. I have TONS of surface movement.
Kristen, that does make sense. Odd thing is it happened between 1230am and 730am. i wonder if anyone has done a study and compaired times when fish jump. I'd be interested to see if there was a pattern. I wonder if a crab came by when he was sleeping and got spooked.
I don't know of any study or survey but I have heard of a lot of night time mishaps. I've had two wrasse get thru egg crate and both times it was at night.
