I have a lawnmower blenny (Sailfin/Algae Blenny) on order and I just noticed that on the website where I ordered it from it says that "It is known to nip at small-polyped stony coral and clam mantles. " I have a large clam and just ordered 2 more. Has anyone experianced their's nipping at clams ? thanks

I have to tridnaca crocea's and 6 SPS in a 65Gallon. I have a 4" sailfin/algae blenny. He does not even know the SPS exist. All fish behave different and certain conditions can cause the fish to behave in certain ways. You never know, but I am not having any troubles with mine.

(other fish 2 false perc's, 1 yellow tang)

Mine is to busy playing in barnacle shells to eat coral and this one is fairly good sized too.

I agree with ckumlien, all fish have different personalities so... Anything is really up for grabs with saltwater. If you do alittle more digging, "they" also say that the blennies supposedly will bother conspecifics and other gobies. I've never seen that happen including with adults.

I have never seen a bleeny obsesivly nip at corals or clams (never results in long term harm). But seen them nip. They nip the glass and the rocks and... yes even your hand while you are cleaning.
I would not be a fraid of adding any of the vegie loving bleenies to any tank.

i seen mine nipping at the clam but he might have been nipping at the shell for algae at least i hope he was. he has never touched my sps corals.

Mine wont nip at anything including algae except the film that grows on the glass. They are supposed to be great for algae control but mine is very picky. Doesn't eat nori, nor live Red Gracillaria... nothing nothing except algae on the glass.

thanks for the replies but it gave it to a friend that has some hair algea and he is doing a good job eating it.

On that note, I had one waist a way when I transfered him to a new tank :(
