Sailfish Video

On Thursday last week I was finally able to get out for the first time in almost a year.....I went along with two native Chicago-ans and they got pretty sick but just before we were about to head in this guy hit the line....

I had decided to take the GoPro out to see how it would do....I basically just dunked the camera underwater and it was pretty rough so sorry for the dizzying video quality....but now that I know it can shoot well, Im jumping in next time (the second video is better than the first).

PS - sorry for that ugly mugshot being the video cover.

lol...i cant figure out how to embed the video. If you click it doesn't work? It's hosted on Photobucket (come to think of it, that may be why the quality is bad).

I caught my first sailfish a couple of weeks ago, kindof...

He hit me, last fish of the day. He tailwalked for 20 yards, gorgeous fish, at least 6 feet long.

Dropped back in, fought like crazy for about 10 minutes, that fish made me his Bi**h for awhile. Finally started winning, went from about 600 yards of line out to about 100, then he hauled butt deep and stayed there. No more fight, just straight pull. Did that for about 20 minutes, brought him to boatside, and it was finally apparent why he fought so hard. He was tailhooked, and he'd been bitten MORE than in half by a huge shark. all that was left was about 12 lbs of meat, the tail, and about 2" of dorsal fin. Funniest part, he ate the sailfish nose first, so that sword went straight into his gut. That had to hurt!

tail hooking any fish stinks. It'll make a 15-20 minute fight into an hour. Ive had that happen but never with a sailfish....that's crazy...cool story.....any pics?

Nice fish. Actually went out yesterday, caught two sails almost three had the release clip not been too tight on the kite lol. Second one was actually tail wrapped. We thought he might not make it but we actually revived him after about 5 min of pumping water into his mouth. Swam away

yeah....thats always a good feeling when you see the fish swim away. They are such a beautiful animal....really glad that catch and release on sails was finally made mandatory.
