Salinity extremes

Ok, so 1.024 to 1.026 is the ideal salinity range.
I read that 1.009 is the lower end of hyposalinity.
What is the upper range for fish to survive in hypersalinity??
What about maximum for the reef to survive?

not sure what the short term max or long term max is. I'm sure there's a difference though for how long survivability is. My reef tank has gotten up to 1.027 for a couple days before with no large effect, but everything looked better after bringing it back down. rate of salinity rise is also a consideration. really if you can't maintain a reasonable salinity range, you're gonna see problems start to arise in your tank. Why do you want to know the upper limit? Also, I'm pretty sure elements will start to precipitate out of solution at higher salinities, throwing off your chemistry

I've heard of people keeping their tanks in the 1.027-1.028 range continuously just fine. I've even brought stuff home from fish stores that tested at 1.027 salinity. I believe the Red Sea gets around 1.030, which is probably close to the upper limit.
