I need to know how to get the salinity down, I recently did a partial water change, and now the salinity is too high.

what is the salinity level after your water change

Replacing some of the tank water with RO/DI will do the trick, but I'd be careful about quick changes. What was the salinity before and after the water change, and how long has it been?

1.026 is fine if you have an ATO going so that it doesn't go any higher. If you dont have an ATO then i would take out a few cups of saltwater and add the same amount of ro/di back. It wont take much for a .002 change.

I target about 1.026-1.026, which is about the canonical ocean average. I'd just leave well enough along at this point. Going a bit over 1.027 isn't going to hurt anything, in my experience.

I had the same problem last week...I have a 45 gallon sump so i pumped out half the regular tank water and filled it with RO/DI water until i got the salinity down

after the water change, I started having probelems with my xenia umbellata and 2 damsils died. what could cause the problem with the xenia?

Any sudden change in SG can kill animals, especially corals, but the timing might have been a coincidence or another change in parameters, too.
