Yes I used it for a bit. Calcium was good (around 420), Alk at around 8 dkh and a reasonable amount of magnesium (1240 or so)

This is a little known brand sold at most Petsmarts (or Petco's) cant remember now..... But I was pretty impressed with my testing results. But, no long term recommendations.
It's the one from Petco.....

I'm in the process of switching from Reef Crystals to Oceanic. I bought Reef Crystals because it was popular and cheap. I've been wanting to try another salt to see how my tank reacts. I'm choosing Oceanic as it's a natural mix and seems to offer better levels of trace elements. We'll see how it goes. BTW - Every few buckets of Reef Crystals that I mixed gave me different calc and alk readings. I just buffered before my WC, but it made me do a little more quality control on my new water. Is it worth the switch? Is there a better salt that's on the opposite spectrum from RC that I should consider?
Be careful with oceanic since it isn't a balance salt mix.

I use the one that gives away a t-shirt

That would be Coralife.

Bing..Bing..Bing..Bing.............. A winner.

I've got a draw full of them

Corafile isn't bad for heavily stocked tanks. You do have to supplement alkalinity though. A little baking soda..... no big deal.

Free t-shirts? Where can I purchase Coralife!? Can't afford t-shirts now since I started this hobby :)

I think you'll be sorry. :D

If you want more calcium, try Seachems Reef Salt, Kent or Coralife.

Oceanic claims to have high calcium concentration. I'll find out when I mix my first bucket of new water. I figure that I'll go through 400 gallons of mix (for a 150g total system) and see how things change if any. I was trying to decide between Oceanic and Seachem. Maybe I'll try Seachem next. I'll probably end up back at RC, but at least I'll have tried alternatives.
Thanks for the advice BTW.

I wouldn't use oceanic without supplementing it with alk. (or using 50/50 IO/oceanic like many of us do)...

i'm not sure what the point of this is, but it is obvious that the most people are going to use IO cause it has be around forever and can be found at pretty much every petshop that has anything to do with saltwater aquariums. Anyways, I voted Red Sea Coral Pro cause that is what I'm trying now and believe it to be one of the newer salts that has the most promise. I read somewhere in one of the newer tests that is being done, that for some reason IO salt seemed to have issues with Cyanobacteria in controlled tests. It also has low levels of very important reef related items such as calcium and magnesium. Which isn't a big deal for a fish only tanks. I don't like to add things to my salt to make them usable for a reef aquarium. I just want to make sure new reefers are aware that just because IO is getting a high vote definitely does not mean it is the best reef salt, because it is far from it. It really isn't usable for reef at all unless you bring the levels up with other products or mix it with other salts that have high values in areas where IO is lacking
All "reef tanks" dose other chemicals regardless of salt used...state that as well. sheesh

I've used IO, Oceanic, TM, TM Pro, Seachem Reef, and Catalina. I like TM because the box is pretty. I like Catalina because of the thought that it actually comes from the sea.

Bertoni and Boomer...... are you surprised how many reefers use Reef Crystals today ? I don't think jd is surprised at all. Neither am I.

Of course you'd have to vote to see the results. :D

I just ordered a 160 gallon bucket of Reef Crystals from drsF&S--they have it on sale right now....good deal!

They often run sales on RC. It's what they use on their coral farm.

IMO, a very consistent balanced salt mix for the reefer with mild to average stocked tanks. :)

I got the Reef Crystals yesterday! I am gonna switch from IO/Oceanic to Reef Crystals (when my IO/oceanic is gone). The 160 gallon bucket of Reef Crystals also came with a free t-shirt! $31.99

Curious why you don't think it is for heavily stocked tanks?
