hey guys....do any of you have salt to sell,if not im gonna order some from drs foster......i use IO so that would be best but i'll buy any kind as long as its not table salt lol

I would think that at either Emerald Bay, or Aquatic Critter, you could get salt cheaper than buying online and paying shipping. Last time I bought ti at Emerald Bay I think I paid $55 for a 200g box of Reef Crystal, IO would be cheaper. Hope that helps,

200 gallon Instant Ocean at Drs. Foster and Smith is $48.98, including shipping. Reef Crystals is $55.98 with shipping. You don't pay tax either.

Awesome! Thanks for the info Zach. I love these forums when they actually work well like this.

right, drs fosters is the cheapest on the net,is why i mentioned it, i dont think emerald bay or others would be cheaper, even with our discount and was just hoping if any of you had any to sell and maybe i could save a bit more on it

I have a 50 gallon worth bag of IO Reef Crystals I am not going to use . Was out of a 200 box. $15.00 and it's yours.

Why would you buy salt anywhere but from Emerald Bay. With your discount you would spending like 40 bucks on Instant Ocean for 200 gallon case. Emerald bay sells more salt than Walmart sells socks.

Because when you add up the time and gas it takes to get all the way over there, it's not worth it. I can throw together an order in less than 5 minutes on my computer, have it shipped to my door and save time, gas, and money. I see no reason to go to any LFS here unless I want a new fish. I can fully understand where he's coming from.

Why does this make you sad? It comes down to a numbers game. When it takes me 30-45 minutes one way (time is money, at least to me), and I have to deal with traffic, and the price typically comes out higher than what it would be online - yes, I would buy online. Also, when I save 50% on a pump (and for a better one at that) - it just makes good business sense. You should know this, right?

Now, what makes me sad is when I see a Kenya tree priced for $49.99 at a store (to remain nameless). They float around in my tank like weeds but some poor new sap is getting ripped $50. When that person finds it's a weed later on, I don't think they'll have warm fuzzy feelings about that location. I know I wouldn't. At previous stores in FL they would charge $5-$10 for weed corals. They did major volume and made money and people were happy and went back. I know the LFS have to keep their doors open, but most of the stock I find around here is drivel. A few nice pieces have been found, and I gladly support - WHEN it makes sense. Last time I went in to one of the stores in Franklin (I'll leave out a name) there was barely anything to look at coral wise, what was there looked sick, and the selection of fish was sad. A couple that were there seemed ready to die. I have too much invested in my tank to buy something like that and possibly spread disease. So, I don't go back, because it doesn't make sense for me to.

Which stores would YOU recommend (so as to avoid these problems, find good prices, and healthy stock).

Thanks!

Yeah but saving a couple bucks on salt is kinda pointless. Is dr fosters & smith gonna help u out in a emergency? No but your LFS will. I'm not bashing your logic esp on big ticket items but you really need to support the LFS when u can. If we don't who will?

I always get my salt at Emerald Bay. They have great prices on their salt, plus I just like hanging out there for a little while every once in a while. :)

I have to agree, I get mine in the group buys from one of the LFS, always get a good deal that lasts until the next buy, and help a local business that is more important to me out.

I won't lie, I do order some things online, but mainly those things that the LFS can't get, or can't even come close to on prices. But I do try to buy from the LFS's frequently.

im sorry but +11111111 to zach,i wont bash anyone but um.......have you guys seen the tanks at some of these places.......bubble and hair algae up the but,my wife pointed out to a clerk today 3 dead fish and another almost dead.....ever notice that the supposed cause of death of these fish seems to be another fish that was just added...never anything else heavens forbid, tons of aptasia, had to point out a huge cyano prob before too.....why the crap would i buy or suggest to another guy...like you all to go to a store and buy a 60 dollar clam or a 200 dollar frogspawn from a tank that has aptasia and bubble algae popping in it? will i support a LFS of course i would but i'll tell the truth bout things also........i can buy 200 gallon salt mix from drs fs for 48.99 shipped......LFS maybe 160 gallon salt for 49 with our discount.....but also how much in gas did ya spend to get there and drive back.....now its become like 53 or so.....can a LFS bail you out in an emergency,of course and thats when you dont care how much it costs...have they helped me out yup they have....have some of ya guys...yup ya have but ill always be honest....sorry ta rant but thats me :D

FWIW, Emerald Bay has 200g mix boxes of IO for around $36 if its on sale, around $40 if its not. Usually the Critter is the same on group buys of salt.

Check your numbers a little better, bro. ;)

Money is pretty tight right now for me, but I never will try to save a few bucks to order online. The point was made above about the support you get from your local LFS. I have a good relationship with one in particular and would not trade that for saving a few bucks. Now I am naive, some things just do not make fiscal sense. I wanted to pickup a new skimmer and the LFS could not touch the online price. The owner understood this but has worked out many other deals for me in the past. Get to know your LFS... you'd be surprised at what they can do for you.
