salt needed

tried the brighwell salt. It smelled horrible. I'm still using IO or oceanic. I really want to try the new aquavitro salt coming out soon

im sorry but +11111111 to zach,i wont bash anyone but um.......have you guys seen the tanks at some of these places.......bubble and hair algae up the but,my wife pointed out to a clerk today 3 dead fish and another almost dead.....ever notice that the supposed cause of death of these fish seems to be another fish that was just added...never anything else heavens forbid, tons of aptasia, had to point out a huge cyano prob before too.....why the crap would i buy or suggest to another guy...like you all to go to a store and buy a 60 dollar clam or a 200 dollar frogspawn from a tank that has aptasia and bubble algae popping in it? will i support a LFS of course i would but i'll tell the truth bout things also........i can buy 200 gallon salt mix from drs fs for 48.99 shipped......LFS maybe 160 gallon salt for 49 with our discount.....but also how much in gas did ya spend to get there and drive back.....now its become like 53 or so.....can a LFS bail you out in an emergency,of course and thats when you dont care how much it costs...have they helped me out yup they have....have some of ya guys...yup ya have but ill always be honest....sorry ta rant but thats me :D

I understand what your saying but what we are talking about is buying salt. Not fish or corals. Ebay does have the 200 gallon boxes for 36.oo thats cheaper than the DRs period. Also they will bend over backwards for you in a emergency if you are a loyal & known customer. I know for a fact a few years ago someone on this forum had a major tank issue on a Sunday night & was on thet verge of lsing his entire tank. Sean from Emerald Bay left his home opened up the store took n the fish & helped out with a water problem & didnt take a single penny for all his trouble. No big box store is gonna do that.

Buy your big ticket items online I totally understand that but dont burn your bridges with the little man or shut them out for a couple bucks. You mean to tell me you feel much more confident buying a fish online from a picture instead of seeing them up close in person? I can drop a fish in a pristine tank for a photo op. I myself order fromvthe DRs on occasion but if I can pick it up locally withen a few dollars more I will always go that route.

You run into the same issues with folks in my other hobby, whiich is Guns. If you are loyal to your local gun shop they will make you unbelievable deals yes you can find cheaper prices online but sometimes you pay for good service. I can go into my local GS & buy whatever I want now cheaper than online. Same thing almost with the LFS You guys keep bringing up tax. Tax on a box of salt is what 5$? its not the LFS fault they have to charge sales tax. I bought a fish at the criter the other day & it was 100.00, they charged me 60.00 without me even asking for a discount. Why is that? Ive been a loyal customer for over 20 years. Do I always get that hook up? No but it is nice when it happens. In this economy if you dont support your LFS they may not be there tomorrow & you will be ordering everything by mail.

ok well maybe i was misunderstood or worded it wrong,i never said id buy fish and or corals online....sorry i doubt i'll ever do that cause im the type that likes to see to believe and yes i checked my numbers and the numbers i posted was exactly what i was told and lastly like i said sean at EB has helped me before and yes i'll buy from him and other local LFS....i go to EB almost every week.......theres a diff between burning bridges and being honest about anything in life

Tax is relavent. It is money spent out of pocket. Is 5 bucks worht going online for? I dunno...I often buy alot locally....BUT....it is relative. I keep track of what I spent where. I paid over 1500 bucks in tax on fish related purchases alone in 2009. It does add up no matter what the deal you get is.

I agree but im talking about a 50.00 box of salt not a 750.oo skimmer.... I know tax adds up I spent about 3500.oo last year in tax alone just on guns & accessories. We are getting off topic.

well if thats how people see it...so be it,i stand by all i said and will always look out for others,i continue to shop at EB,continue to shop at AC,will shop at fins if im ever out that way....continue to find deals online vs LFS and if the cheapest i could get 2 clowns is 35 bucks and one of da guys/gals on here offers me 2 clowns for 20 bucks, guess where im gonna buy them? everyone has an opinon and mine is all that i stated....an opinon is only fact to the person that states it and thats mine,i dont nor would ever force my opinons on others....again sorry if im coming across as an azz

This brings back memories when I was doing a salt group buy through Critters... It just brings up complications. It's just more simplified to do group order through people you know that won't be complaining.... I bought it through Critters cause they give me a good deal on the salt. I have checked everywhere else, no one beats their pricing when it comes down to it. Do I purchase stuffs online? YES I do all the time. But do I purchase stuffs at Critters all the time? YES! I'm there all the time purchasing this and that. When it comes down to it, depending on the sales person I'm dealing with, IF I like them, I will purchase stuffs through that same person. There's a few I do not deal with at Critter! It really depends on how the sales person treats me to make me feel IF I even want to purchase anything. Does Critter help me out when I'm in need? YES! That's why I'm doing business with them even though some stuffs may cost more. Each to his/or her own, IF you don't like it, take this with a grain of salt.

LFS buying 500 fish a week , and people not expecting any fish to die. 2000 dollars. Taking in peoples frags , rock , and bubble algae and aiptasia from their tanks from home. 1000 dollars. Knowing that the people on Internet forums have more knowledge of all things fish and coral than any one in the world. $priceless$

amen...i think some people take things too personally.....now a days its about getting the best you can for the money you can spend,if i was a millionare i wouldnt care

It's expected for fish to die. They just shouldn't be left floating in the tank for customers to see. Fish get sick. They just shouldn't be left in the communal tanks forever, possibly spreading disease. I see that everywhere. $2000. LFS should refuse frags that have bubble algae and aiptaisa so as to not spread the pests. I've seen frags for sale with the same and I think it's bad practice. $1000. Finding a LFS that does these things - priceless.

I'm not of the Wal-Mart mentality. I'm part of the I'm-a-cheap-bastard-that-saves-money-everywhere-he-can-so-he-can-retire-at-age-50-and-move-to-a-deserted-island-and-not-have-to-deal-with-idiots-mentality.

haha, I can't tell if you are joking or not!

I despise walmart, I've only been in walmart twice in the last 6 years, once to return something someone else bought me, and once because my mom "HAD" to go when we were all out of town together.
