SALT?? Oceanic or Instant ocean/ reef crystals?

So before i go out and spend more money buying the reef crystals, i thought that I would ask what everyone elses experiences are and what salt mix you prefer. I currently use Instant Ocean and see moderate growth of corals...

Thanks :fish2:

I switched to Red Sea Coral Pro and really like it. My calcium levels are much easier to maintain. I also noticed more growth but this may or may not be attributed to the salt as I also changed other things at the same time.

Instant ocean isn't spectacular for a reef unless your dosing it to the levels of your liking, prior to the WC.

I also have become dedicated to Red Sea Coral Pro. On my second bucket now, and I don't see myself ever switching to something else. I have used Instant ocean, Oceanic, and Salinity in the past.

#3 On Red Sea Coral Pro! I started a thread about how happy I was and the reactions I got from my 1st water change with it in 2 tanks! Posted videos of starfish/urchin sexiness going on in both tanks immediatly after the water change. Got the same reactions the 2nd water change this week and will not go back to the cheap stuff (3bags in a box 30 bucks) I was buying.

Instant Ocean- I would use this if you are trying to get extra nutrients out of your system because it is a low nutrient salt mix.

Reef Crystals- This is a good standard salt that is inexpensive and low in nutrients as well. It has higher levels of trace elements then the Instant Ocean and higher calcium levels.

I use SeaChem Aquavitro Salinity- I have been very satisfied with this salt mix. It is very concentrated and mixes up quickly. Also, It has higher levels of calcium so you don't see a big drop in your calcium levels when you do a water change. The mix is very precise as far as the levels of calcium 409-435, magnesium 1296-1376, and strontium 8.1-8.7. I also really like that is has a full analysis of the salt on the side of the bucket and the analysis is very accurate.

Besides those three salts my favorite salt is Tropic Marine Pro Reef :) but its expensive :/

Where do you get the SeaChem at? I have never heard of that one?

probably from ReefCulture or AquaTouch most places in town should carry it or be able to order it for you. Check online http://www.sjkaquatics.com/sec7582.html

I just did a google search and thats the cheapest online /\/\

Its a pretty new salt mix. the NeoMarine salt mix from Brightwell is a new one too but i don't think its worth buying. I tried a few buckets when it first came out and didn't have very good results. It may have been improved since then.

+1 on the Red Sea Coral Pro I love it and have used many kinds of salt. I believe Pets inc. has the best price in town.

never had good results with reef crystals. I have been using red sea coral pro and have had no problems and I like it but... I'm going to try salinity now.

does the rscp mix clean? been using rc for years, but the nastiness left in in the mixing drum is getting ah little old...

I think it mixes well. Not as quick as IO but faster than RC in my opinion. I haven't noticed any build up in my mixing bucket thus far.

RC is $5 cheaper than Pets Inc.

I hated salinity. It's almost impossible to keep most of the Ca/Alk from precipitating out. You have to mix it stupid slow.

seems like everyone, here in NY area is switching to ESV ... mixes clean, high alk, mag and calc. levels... most people say they see results with 1st water change.

I've used Instant Ocean for the last six years and really like it. I have a mixed tank with softies, LPS and SPS.

kent reef salt??

kent reef salt??

has anyone tried this salt? it is on sale for cheap so before i buy it i wanted your opinion? thanks guys!

I've used IO for many years with no problems and decent success. I switched to Red Sea Coral Pro (black bucket) a few months ago and my corals look much better, more poly extension and just more healthy looking overall.
