SALT?? Oceanic or Instant ocean/ reef crystals?

I have def. come to conclude that the next bucket that i get is going to be the red sea pro. I have noticed after using instant ocean for many years, i do not see much coraline growth or let alone much coral growth despite supplemental feedings. I will be switching soon....so what is the typical price that everyone pays for Red Sea Pro salt??

That's true but with Instant Ocean I've really had great success with it. So for me I wouldn't put it in that category.

I used IO for a while and I couldn't maintain cal and alk so I dosed more often so I ended up with reef crystals at the end of each bag it would mix up horribly. White film on everything. I recently switched to red sea coral pro and Im in love. Within the first 2 water changes I noticed new growth like I have never seen before. You will like it I promise.

As far as the ESV salt goes you have to mix it by weight of the different parts that make up the complete mix. A lot of people like it but a lot of people have had issues with being consistent on each batch mixed. The ESV users are also testing damn near every batch as well. I test with all my salt buckets the beginning and the end just to check level consistency but testing ESV with each new batch of water every week is a waste of test kits and would be very tedious IMO.

You bring up an interesting topic for discussion. So, lets say I want to give Red Sea Pro a try. I've been using IO for six years. The question is...what effect will this have on my tank? Is it a good idea to switch salts or should we stick with one kind?

What do you guys think? Meaning specifically changing after such a long time...

I've never heard of anyone significantly affecting a tank (negatively) by switching salts. I imagine you might stunt some things temporarily, but I doubt you'd even notice it.

I have never heard of any issues either. Maybe in extreme cases where for example you have a 100g tank and you change out 50% or more of your water with the new salt. Now the trace elements and other additives that the manufacturer uses more than likely comes from different sources and varies in grade or in different ratios. As we all know that when you make large changes in a small environment you can upset the inhabitants. I don't think that doing your normal water changes can make a huge impact, but on the safe side if you have been using brand x for y amount of years, mixing half of brand x with brand z until the remainder of x is used up wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I hope that made sense. I have had x amount of beers in y amount of hours after a long day at work. In this case x+y=

That does make sense. I have 2 votes for it doesn't matter. I wonder if anyone thinks it's a bad idea?

I wouldn't do a 100% water change with it but if you are doing 20% wc weekly I don't see that it could hurt anything. Maybe I'll even try it!

wow a 3 year old thread.. haha. i have always used red sea coral pro, its gggrreat as tony the tiger would say.
