It is simple company A tells company B, (company B is the salt manufacturer) make me 1 million pounds of salt. Here are my ingredients and specifications. Many light bulbs are made by the same company as well

it's called contract manufacturing

Bingo, gotfish............Now SlowCobra pay close attention. This could take a few tries for you to get this. It's not the same salt it's the same manufacturer. The Mfg. uses the same ingredients but different amounts of each. Here is the clincher, they do use the same bucket but they have a different colored lid and a different paint job.

Oh thats a good one, you got me. :rolleye1: Answer the question with sound reasoning. Why is it that there is a claim it is the SAME salt in a different bucket. Using the Cobalt vs Corvette is asinine as there was NEVER a claim it was the SAME car.

If it is the SAME salt why, when tested, do the levels come back different?

Ummm.... you may want to re-read the thread. Nobody claimed that they were the same salt, just the same manufacturer. That is not the same thing.

I just got off the phone with Seachem Tech Support. They do not manufacture their own salt anymore. The "blend" is unique to their company. I asked the nice tech support person to chime in here to clairify.

The picture of the buckets was just a hint. I wasn't going to give you all the answers, but someone else did. Yes all the IO, RC, Seachem salt is made in Ohio at the same plant. Seachem specifies what they want in their salt, & they get what they want. Just like when you order a car, but I'll take the Subaru WRX STI. :D

Marineland makers of the IO, RC, & others admitted they had quality issues with their salt in the past. They now have batch numbers on every bucket of salt, & they test each batch in the beginning, middle, & end. Each batch of salt is a pallet full, & you can rest assured that RC is a good product.

The Red Sea Salt is the only manufacturer that evaporates saltwater from a reef area of the Red Sea. They add a few minerals & buffers that are lost in the process, but contains all the trace elements only found in the ocean.

The salt is manufactured to our specification. To date we are the only company that uses the particular blend for our salt. The fact that it is outsourced allows us to keep the cost within reason for consumers. That does not mean the salts are the same. It is a very labor intensive endeavor to produce a good well blended salt. I think that the salt being outsourced was misconstrued into we do not specify parameters or have a say so in the blend which we do. The salt is checked several times over to ensure our blend is honored.

Thank you

You guys are all crazy, those buckets are definately a different color. Anybody can plainly see that. Maybe they morphed under different lighting conditions, no two wharehouses have the same lights or air quality.

The deal that MWRS had on the Seachem salt was a killer. I only got 1 bucket. It was all that would fit in antoknee's trunk.

On the subject of salt, when I was at Central Aquatics open house in Franklin their head chemist pretty much said that most salt IS outsourced. They (CA) do mix their salt in Dallas according to the chemist specs. According to him, Corallife is actually their best overall salt at the moment. They also plan to reformulate Kent to be the "best" salt on the market

The only problem with Midwest is that if you hunt around and look you'll find something you haven't seen before and have to have.

Talk and ask, if you were buying something for you tank what would you buy.

Been suprised more than once.

Fitz.

On the note of Coralife salt, I know a few "expert reefers' who swqar by it. One of them (owner of Ocean Blend additives) has only used that for more years than I recall. He had his chemist do all the tests, this is the one that time after time tested consistanly level.
Now he also will tell you that TM is a great salt, but why spend that cash when you have to put additives in anyway. Get a good base mix (in his mind Coralife) and keep it to the correct levels for your tank through dosing, weather it is his stuff or someone elses.
