salt water in DC8

I'll spare the details, but I got some salt water in a DC8 yesterday. Smoke came out of one of the empty outlets and when I unplugged the entire unit out of reflex action....let's just say it got interesting.

Now it doesn't seem to be supplying any juice. Do they have an internal fuse? Should I just wait a few days to let it dry out?

(spare me the high tech explainations..you'd be wasting it on me..I'm electric illiterate)

Yes, they do have a fuse inside, and IIRC it's not one that you can pick up at a local hardware store. Either way, let it dry out for a bit.

listen to Johnny... it might still be okay (after it dries out) OR simply need a fuse.

Coincidentally... water got into mine this weekend when we lifted the leaker.

You might want to do the trick they use for drying out submerged iPods - put it in some white rice for a couple days. The rice helps to pull out the moisture.

I thought it was plenty dried and I had already tried plugging it back in. It is definitely not supplying any juice. That was why I thought perhaps there's a fuse involved. Otherwise, I'm afraid it's smoked. I don't really want to keep plugging it back in and unplugging it as it's definitely shocking me.

I'll spare the details but I got a very serious shock from a DC8 that malfunctioned, it left me in the hospital. I would be very, very cautious about using this going forward. Also, never ever trust the breakers on the DC8s. I had an outlet stick in the ON position, and the outlet still was getting juice even after the main DC8 circuit breaker was tripped. Very dangerous situation. Be careful.

May not be to pricy to just send it back to be repaired. But as we all know most of the time it costs as much to fix as it does to buy new and you end up with a repaired DC8.

ummmm...yes...stop doing that IMMEDIATELY. It's smoked, and you may be in danger of arriving in that condition as well.:worried:

Time for a new DC8.

Thanks, PM sent. $100 is cheaper than a hospital stay. But still SO ****ed I could be stupid enough to get water in it.

I'm getting to my limit with the big SPS system. It's tough to maintain for me at this point. Waterchanges are irratic. Corals are responding poorly.

Lookin' forward to "pullin' a Nate".

Sorry I was in a rush when I posted that. I'm not sure who the seller is, I saw the DC8 for sale and remembered your thread. No idea on pricing, seems like a good deal considering what a DC4 costs for the RKE!

For completeness sake, I'm replacing the unit. I don't play with electricity, and Tad's input convinced me to suck it up and shell out the cash vs have my wife find me cold and blue on the basement floor.

Thanks for the input everyone.
